Well, now, you listen here. This here Kentucky Derby preps 2024, it’s a big ol’ deal, you see? Lots of horses, all wantin’ to run in that big race. Fastest horses around, I reckon. This year, they got this thing, a bunch of races, they call it the “Road to the Kentucky Derby”. And these horses, they gotta run in ’em, get points and such. More points, better chance they get to run in the big one, the Kentucky Derby. Like a game, but with horses.
They say this one horse, Grand Mo the First, he got in ’cause another one, Deterministic, couldn’t make it. That’s how it goes sometimes. You gotta be ready to jump in when your time comes. Just like when they need someone to bake a pie, you gotta be ready. And these races? There’s this thing, they say 16 out of 17 of these big races, these “graded stakes,” were won by the best ones, the ones everyone thought would win. That’s how it should be. The best should win, right? Ain’t that the way of the world?
And they got all these lists, showin’ who’s got the most points. These horses, they run all over, different tracks, tryin’ to get those points. It’s like when we used to have those pie-baking contests down at the county fair. Everyone bringin’ their best, hopin’ to win. This 2024, it’s a whole series of races. Horses runnin’ and runnin’, tryin’ to get to that Kentucky Derby.
They got this one horse, Ramjet. They say he’s doin’ real good, got lots of points. Won some big race over in Japan, the Hyacinth Stakes. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I reckon it’s like our county fair, just bigger and fancier. They talk about this other horse, Encino. His trainer, some fella named Brad Cox, sayin’ Encino might run in the Kentucky Derby, or maybe this other one, the Preakness Stakes. Got to make up their minds, I suppose. Big decisions.
There’s this other thing. It’s like one of them video games the young folks play. It’s got this character, 2B. They say she’s some kind of soldier, fightin’ them machines. She got this partner, 9S, they call him. They go around, doin’ whatever they gotta do. Sounds like a whole lot of trouble to me. This 2B, her full name is YoRHa No. 2 Type B. Sounds like a robot. She’s supposed to help the humans, I guess. They hidin’ from them machines, up on the moon, they say.
This 2B, she sounds like a fast one, too. They say she handles like another one, A2. But different. This A2 does less damage when attack. Don’t make much sense to me, but that’s what they say. Sounds like a bunch of hooey if you ask me. But the Kentucky Derby, that’s real. Those horses, they real. And they gonna run, and one of ’em gonna win. That’s how it is.

They got these lists, all these names. Hard to keep track of ’em all. But they all tryin’ to get to that Kentucky Derby 2024. It’s a big deal, you know. Like the biggest thing around for these horses. And the folks who own ’em, and the folks who train ’em, and the folks who ride ’em. Everyone wants to be in that race.
This Road to the Kentucky Derby, it’s a long one. Lots of races, lots of travelin’. These horses, they work hard. Just like we used to work hard on the farm. Up before the sun, workin’ all day. These horses, they do the same, in their own way. Runnin’ and trainin’, gettin’ ready for that big day. They say it is in May. I hope the weather is good for them all.
I remember one time, back when I was a young girl, we had this old mule. Stubborn as all get out. But when he set his mind to somethin’, he’d do it. These horses, they got that same spirit, I reckon. They set their minds to runnin’, and they run. And they run fast. Faster than anything you ever seen.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about that. This Kentucky Derby preps 2024, it’s somethin’ to see, I suppose. If you like horses and racin’ and all that. Me, I’m just an old lady. But I seen a thing or two in my time. And I know a good horse when I see one. And these horses, they good ones. They the best there is. And they gonna show the world what they made of, come that big race day. You just wait and see. They are runnin’ for that big prize. Just like we did for the blue ribbon at the fair. Those were the days, I tell ya!

The best horse usually wins, just like that 16 out of 17 races. Keep that in mind when you are pickin’ your horses. Maybe you’ll get lucky. But most important is to have fun, you hear?
