I’ve always admired Joe Winker in MLB games, you know? His swing looks so smooth and powerful. So, I figured, why not try to train like him myself? I started by watching a bunch of his highlight videos on my phone, just sitting on the couch one lazy Saturday. After that, I went out to my backyard with an old baseball bat I had lying around.

First, I tried to copy his stance from the videos. I placed my feet wide apart, bent my knees a little, and held the bat up high. But man, it felt awkward—like I was wobbling all over the place. I almost fell on my face the first few swings. So, I adjusted by practicing without the bat for a bit. I stood still, shifted my weight, and pretended to swing slow and steady.
Next, I picked up the bat again and focused on the motion. I swung at imaginary pitches, really putting force into it. The key parts were how he loads up, then explodes through the hit. I must’ve done this like fifty times in a row. Sweat was dripping down, and my arms started aching real bad. At one point, I almost dropped the bat ’cause my grip wasn’t tight enough. To fix that, I took a break, drank some water, and came back softer at first. I built up to faster swings, trying to make it feel natural like Joe’s.
After a bunch of tries, things started clicking. I felt a snap in my swing, kind of like the videos. Not perfect, but better. I ended the session by hitting a few real balls into a net. It wasn’t home-run stuff, but I got solid contact and a good rhythm going. Totally pumped from the effort, I packed up and grinned all the way back inside. Feels like I’m getting closer to nailing that star training style—just gotta keep at it every day!
