Is the New York F1 Grand Prix happening? Get all the latest updates and real news.

So, this New York F1 Grand Prix thing, right? Been rattling around in my head for ages. Kept hearing whispers, seeing little blurbs online. You know how it is. Gets you thinking.

My big idea? Actually figure out if this was a real thing, or just internet smoke. I mean, a Grand Prix in New York! Imagine that. So, I decided to dive in. My own little project, my “practice” for the week, you could say.

First thing, I hit the usual spots. Fired up the computer, you know. Scoured all the big F1 news sites, fan forums, even those dodgy rumor mills you stumble onto late at night. Spent hours, days even, just clicking and reading. My eyes were burning. You’d think something that big would leave a trace, right? Some official crumbs?

Then I got a bit more hands-on, tried to make it real in my head. Started looking at maps of New York. Pulled up Google Maps, satellite view, the whole nine yards. Where could they even put a track?

  • Staten Island? Maybe. Seemed a bit out of the way, but hey, space.
  • Across the river in New Jersey, like that Port Imperial idea they floated years ago? That actually sounded pretty cool, with the skyline and all. I spent a whole afternoon just staring at that bit of coastline.
  • Right through Central Park? Ha, yeah right. Can you imagine the chaos? But a man can dream, can’t he?

I was properly into it, scribbling imaginary layouts on old envelopes. My wife just shook her head, asked if I was planning to run for mayor next.

I even tried to get clever. Thought, okay, maybe there are some local government proposals, some planning documents buried somewhere deep online. So I started digging into NYC and NY State government websites. Let me tell you, that’s a rabbit hole. Talk about a maze. It’s all bureaucracy and PDFs that take forever to load. Found nothing but meeting minutes about potholes and debates on parking ticket appeals. Seriously.

And here’s the kicker, the big result of my deep dive. After all that effort, all those hours, what did I find? Zilch. Nada. Sweet F.A. A whole lot of wishful thinking from fans like me, and a few ancient articles about failed bids from like, a decade ago. It’s like chasing a ghost car around Manhattan. You hear the roar, but there’s nothing there.

So, what’s the deal?

You see all these other cities getting races, Miami, Vegas throwing money around. And New York, the greatest city in the world, supposedly, can’t get its act together for an F1 race? It’s a bit of a joke, really, when you think about it. All that potential, just sitting there. The logistics must be a nightmare, I get it. But still.

So, what was the point of my little “practice,” my big investigation into the New York F1 dream? Well, I learned that sometimes, the internet hype is just that – hype. And that New York probably has too many other, louder things to worry about than F1 cars zipping around. Still, I spent a good chunk of time on it. Got pretty good at navigating those awful government websites, I’ll give myself that. Might come in handy if I ever need to contest a parking ticket. But an F1 race in New York? Don’t hold your breath. I sure ain’t anymore. Back to watching the races on TV, I guess. Way less headache, and cheaper too.
