Is Overwatch 2 cross platform enabled between PlayStation and Xbox (Get the full details on matching console players)

Okay, so I wanted to talk about my time trying out Overwatch 2 cross-platform play. It’s something I was really looking forward to, mainly ’cause I got buddies playing on different consoles and I’m usually on my PC.

Getting Started

First thing I had to do was make sure my * account was all set up. It’s kinda the key to the whole thing. For console folks, I remember them saying they had to link their console account (like PlayStation Network or Xbox Live) to their * account. I was already on PC, so my * account was good to go. That part was pretty straightforward, just logged into the * website and checked my account connections.

Finding Friends

Next up was actually adding my friends. This wasn’t too bad either. You don’t add them by their console username, you gotta use their BattleTag. It’s that name with the numbers after it, like PlayerName#1234. I just asked my friends for theirs. Went into the game’s social menu, hit ‘Add Friend’, and typed in their BattleTags. Didn’t matter if they were on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch, the invite went through the same way. Saw the notifications pop up when they accepted.

Playing Together

Once we were all friends on *, grouping up was easy peasy. Just like inviting anyone else who’s online. Opened the social menu again, saw my friends listed there with little icons showing if they were on console or PC. I just clicked their name and hit ‘Invite to Group’. They joined up, and boom, we had a cross-platform party ready to roll.

We jumped into Quick Play first. The queue times didn’t feel crazy long or anything, maybe a little bit different than solo queue but nothing annoying. One thing to know, and we figured this out quick, is that if you have a mixed group like ours (PC and console), you usually get put into the PC matchmaking pool. Makes sense, keeps things fair with mouse and keyboard players. My console friends knew this going in, they said it felt a bit faster paced maybe, but we still had a blast.

If it’s just console players grouped up, they stay in the console pool against other console players, which uses aim assist and stuff. But PC player in the mix? Welcome to the PC world.

Talking and Stuff

We used the in-game voice chat. Honestly, it worked fine. Didn’t matter who was on what system, we could all hear each other and talk strategy (or mostly just mess around). No weird echoes or connection drops related to the cross-play part itself. That was a big plus, communication’s super important in Overwatch.

Overall Feeling

So yeah, my whole experience getting Overwatch 2 cross-platform working and playing with friends was pretty smooth. It just… works. You link your account, add friends via BattleTag, and you can group up and play. The game handles putting you in the right queues. It definitely made it way easier to play with everyone I know, without worrying about what box or machine they bought. It’s a good feature, glad they figured it out.
