You know, it’s funny how certain topics or names just pop up out of nowhere online sometimes. Like, one day you’re scrolling, the next day everyone’s talking about something like ‘kane gay’. Makes you wonder where it all starts.

I’ve been noticing more characters in shows and games lately that fit outside the old molds. Sometimes it feels a bit like they’re just ticking a box, you know? Like, suddenly, this character’s identity is their only personality trait. That always feels a bit off to me. But other times, it’s handled way better, just feels like a normal part of who they are, not the whole story.
What I’ve Seen Around
It seems like creators are trying different things, which is good, I guess. I remember watching one show – can’t recall the name – where a character’s journey felt really genuine. It wasn’t a big shocking reveal, just part of their life. Then there are others where it feels like it’s purely for shock value or to stir up conversation.
- Sometimes it’s super subtle, almost missable.
- Sometimes it’s loud and proud, front and center.
- And sometimes, yeah, it just feels kinda awkward, like the writers weren’t sure how to handle it.
It’s a mixed bag, really. You get some really thoughtful portrayals, and then you get stuff that makes you cringe a little.
So, Why’s This on My Mind Now?
Okay, this is gonna sound totally unrelated, but stick with me. Last week, I was trying to clear out my garage. Absolute disaster zone in there. Found this old box labelled ‘Projects’. Inside was a half-finished model spaceship I started building, like, ten years ago. Completely forgot about it.
I pulled it out, and the instructions were missing. All I had were the parts and a vague memory of what it was supposed to look like. I spent maybe two hours just trying to fit pieces together, figuring out what went where. Got pretty frustrated, honestly. Felt like I was trying to force things into places they didn’t belong just because I thought I knew the end result.

Ended up just putting the pieces loosely together in a way that looked kinda cool, but definitely wasn’t what the box originally showed. It wasn’t ‘right’, but it was my version of it, based on the pieces I had and how they fit together for me.
And that whole garage mess got me thinking. It made me think about how we label things, try to fit them into neat boxes. Whether it’s old junk in the garage, characters on TV, or these random internet things like ‘kane gay’. We see a few pieces and try to slap a label on the whole thing based on instructions we might not even have.
Sometimes things just are what they are, you know? Maybe they don’t need a perfect label or to fit into a pre-defined box. It’s more about seeing the different parts and how they connect, rather than forcing a specific name onto it all. Just a thought I had while staring at a pile of plastic spaceship parts.
