Alright, buckle up, because I’m about to dive deep into a financial black hole that I’ve been avoiding for far too long: how much money I’ve sunk into League of Legends. I’m talking skins, emotes, battle passes, the whole shebang. Let’s do this.
So, where do I even begin? I guess the very beginning. I started playing League back in Season 3 – yeah, I’m an old-timer. Back then, I was a broke college student. Didn’t have much to spend, so it was mostly free-to-play. I maybe bought a couple of champions with RP, but that was it. Maybe like $20 total? Those were simpler times.
Fast forward a few years, I actually have a job, and some disposable income. That’s where the trouble started. I saw a cool skin for my main, and I thought, “Hey, I deserve this!” And that was the gateway drug. It was like, bam, $10 here, $20 there. Before I knew it, I had a whole collection.
Then came the loot boxes. Oh man, the loot boxes! The promise of a rare skin… the crushing disappointment of getting a ward skin. I remember spending like $50 on loot boxes trying to get Project: Ashe. Did I get it? Nope! I ended up just buying it outright later. What a waste!
And let’s not forget the battle passes. Every season, there’s a new battle pass with exclusive skins, emotes, and icons. I always tell myself, “I’ll actually grind this one out!” And I usually do… which means I buy the pass. That’s another $10 every few months. It adds up!
Okay, so let’s try to break this down. Let’s say, on average, I’ve spent about $50 a year on skins and RP since I started having a real job. That’s maybe 8 years? So that’s $400 right there. Then tack on another $10 per battle pass, four times a year, for those eight years. That’s another $320. And then there’s the random loot box splurges… Let’s be conservative and say another $100 total for those.

Adding all that up… I’ve probably spent around $840 on League of Legends. That’s… a lot. Like, I could have bought a new gaming monitor with that kind of money!
Honestly, seeing that number written down is a bit of a wake-up call. I still enjoy playing, but maybe I need to curb my spending a little bit. No more impulse RP purchases!
