Interlock grip how to do? Easy steps to master golf swing!

So yesterday I decided to finally fix my golf grip. Kept slicing everything into the woods. Figured it might be the interlock thing everyone talks about. Never tried it, always used that baseball grip. Heard it gives more control. Sounded good to me.

The First Tries Were Awful

Went to the backyard with my old 7-iron. Tried to twist my hands together like the YouTube guys said. Felt super awkward. Like trying to wrestle an octopus. Right pinky felt lost trying to squeeze between my left index and middle finger. My thumb stuck out like a sore sausage. Thought maybe my hands were just too dumb for this.

Squeezed the club like it owed me money anyway. Took a swing. Felt super wobbly. Clubface went CLANK right into the dirt maybe two feet in front. Ball shot sideways like a scared rabbit right into the neighbor’s begonias. Oops.

Stubbornness Kicked In

Fine. Dug the ball out, apologized to the begonias mentally. Looked at my hands. YouTube guy said “left index finger tucked over right pinky knuckle”. Mine looked like a smashed bug. Tried again. Loosened up the death grip a little. Focused on just hooking those two fingers – pinky and index – together lightly, like linking two puzzle pieces.

Swing felt… less wobbly? Maybe? Second shot. Ball actually went up! And forward! Only God knows where it landed down the block, but it was moving. Progress? Felt weirdly connected. Like my hands were finally talking to each other instead of yelling.

Starting to Click (Sort Of)

Practiced for like an hour just gripping and ungripping. Over and over. While watching dumb TV. Started feeling less like my fingers were alien invaders. Key things I figured out:

  • Don’t strangle it. Seriously, light touch is better. White knuckles = bad shot.
  • Hook just those two fingers. Like a little finger shackle. Rest of the fingers wrap normally, thumbs kinda pointing down the shaft.
  • Hands gotta hang together. Felt like one big mitt instead of two floppy pancakes.

Went back outside later. Hit maybe 10 balls. Some still went way right. A few went surprisingly straight. Felt different. Not natural yet, but different. Like I could actually feel where the clubface was pointing during the swing sometimes. Mind blown. Small wins.

Biggest takeaway? It feels completely unnatural for the first hundred tries. Like tying your shoes with your feet. But if my sausage thumb and clumsy fingers can kinda do it, anyone can. Just gotta grind it out. Still feels weird holding the club now, like I’m holding it “wrong”. But the few good shots… yeah, feels promising. If your hands feel super awkward and kinda pinchy at first, you’re probably doing it right. Weird logic, I know.
