Well, let me tell ya, that Indy race in Newton, Iowa, that’s somethin’ else. Ain’t never seen nothin’ like it. They call it the Iowa Speedway, you know. And those cars, they go zoomin’ around that track faster than a greased piglet at the county fair.

They come from all over, these racers, to that little track in Newton. It’s a big deal, this IndyCar race, I reckon. They call this one the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend. Hy-Vee, that’s the grocery store, you know. They put on this whole shindig.
This year, now, that was somethin’. They had it in July, I think it was the 13th and 14th. Two whole days of them cars goin’ round and round. Makes ya dizzy just watchin’ ’em! But it’s excitin’, I tell ya. Like watchin’ a swarm of angry bees, but way faster. And louder!
They say it’s the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet.” And I believe it. It’s not a big ol’ track, but them cars, they just fly. They say the track is less than a mile around. But those cars, they do a lap in less than 18 seconds! Can you imagine? Faster than I can shell a pot of peas, that’s for sure!
They got all kinds of folks there. Big crowds, they say. Last year, or maybe it was the year before, they said over 80,000 people came to watch. That’s more folks than live in our whole county! And they come from all over, just to see this Indy race in Newton, Iowa.
- They got music, too.
- Big-time singers.
- They had that Eric Church fella, I think.
- Heard of him on the radio.
My nephew, he went one year. Said it was a hoot. He said them drivers, they’re like daredevils. Goin’ that fast, so close together. Takes a lot of nerve, I reckon. And they gotta be strong, too. He said it’s hard work, drivin’ them cars.

It ain’t just a race, you see. They make a whole weekend out of it. Like a big party. Music and food and all kinds of things goin’ on. They even had some NASCAR races. Heard some fella named Ryan Blaney won one of those. They say they’re comin’ back next year, too, in 2025. I reckon that’s good for Newton. Brings a lot of folks to town.
I ain’t never been to nothin’ like it. But it sure sounds excitin’. Maybe one of these days, I’ll get myself down to that Iowa Speedway and see what all the fuss is about. It’s supposed to be somethin’ to see, this Indy race.
They say that track, it’s special. They call it a “tri-oval” or somethin’. And it’s got this “variable banking.” I don’t know what that means, but it sounds fancy. Must be why them cars can go so fast on it. They say it drives like a bigger track, even though it’s short.
Yep, that Indy race in Newton, Iowa, it’s a big deal. If you ever get a chance to go, you should. Just be prepared for the noise and the crowds. And them cars, they’re gonna go by so fast, you might just miss ’em!
It’s a lot of fun, so I hear. And they are going to have so much fun next year too. That Hy-Vee, they sure know how to throw a party. This IndyCar Race, woo, that’s somethin’. People get excited. Big names there. All them people comin’ to Newton, just for that race.

I heard they are doin’ it again next year, 2025. Gonna be big, I bet. Maybe bigger than ever. July 11-13. And they have another one in August. They say it is gonna be a blast. They sure know how to keep folks entertained.
This Indy race in Newton, Iowa, is somethin’. Fastest short track they call it. Those drivers, they are somethin’ else. Brave as can be. And strong. It is tough, drivin’ those cars. Lot of work. Not for me. I am too old for that. But the young folks, they love it.
They come from everywhere just for this race. That little town of Newton, it gets full. Hotels, restaurants, all packed. Good for them, I say. Good for business. Keeps the town alive. This race, it’s a good thing. Good for everybody.
