So yesterday I was scrolling through Snapchat totally bored when I remembered hearing about this Shazam thing built right into the app. Honestly, I had no clue where to start – wasn’t like there’s a big flashing sign. Figured I’d just poke around until I found it. Here’s exactly what I did.

Finding the Shazam Thing
First, I grabbed my phone and fired up Snapchat like normal. Was looking at my friends’ Stories, swiping left-right, feeling kinda lost. Then it hit me: gotta go to the camera screen. Duh. That main screen where you take selfies? Yeah. From there, I stared at the blank screen for a sec. No obvious button. What now?
- I tapped around randomly near the top, nothing.
- Held my finger down near the bottom – still nada.
- Finally, I tried just holding down anywhere empty on the camera screen for a couple seconds… Bingo! This weird soundwave animation popped up near the bottom. That was it.
Actually Trying to Shazam a Song
Saw the pulsing sound waves? Time to test it. Had my smart speaker playing some random pop song (don’t judge the playlist, okay?). Pointed my phone’s mic towards the speaker, kept holding my finger on the camera screen. Saw the waves bounce with the music – felt kinda cool.
- Held it for like 5 seconds.
- Then lifted my finger.
- Instantly, a little music note icon appeared on the bottom right. Tapped it.
Boom! Snapchat flashed the song name and artist right there on my screen. Worked way quicker than I thought. Tried it again on another track playing faintly from my neighbor’s place… managed to catch that too!
What Happens After You Find a Song?
So it finds the song. Cool. Then what? I tapped on the result it showed me. No option to save it inside Snapchat itself, which kinda sucked. But hey, it offered to send the song to a friend as a Chat. Weirdly, it also popped up a link to Spotify, which was handy ’cause I could jump straight to listening there.
- Basically, it’s a fast way to identify music while you’re already in Snap.
- Super simple once you know the trick is press and hold the camera screen.
- Wish it remembered my history though. Went back later and couldn’t find the songs I’d found.
Honestly, it’s dead easy when you know the steps. Just hold the camera screen. Took me three tries to get it right because I was overcomplicating it. Now it’s my go-to when I’m already snapping and hear a tune.
