Okay, so yesterday I hit up the driving range to work on my golf game. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do more often, not just for the game but also to get out of the house a bit more, you know?

First off, I grabbed my clubs and made sure I had enough balls. Nothing worse than running out mid-practice.
Once I got there, I took a few minutes to just warm up. I did some stretches, swung my arms, and twisted my torso around a bit. I saw some people just jump straight into swinging, and I used to do that too. But trust me, warming up makes a huge difference. It gets your blood flowing and your muscles ready.
Then, I started with some short shots. I’m talking about hitting the ball just 40 or 50 yards. This is great for getting a feel for the club and making sure my grip and stance are right. I did about 20 of these, really focusing on making solid contact. You don’t need to kill the ball; it’s all about the technique.
- Hit 20 balls with a slow swing.
- Then hit 20 more with five rehearsals.
- Finally, I tried to hit 20 shots with my full routine.
After feeling good about the short game, I gradually increased the distance. I moved to about 60-70 yards and repeated the process. Again, I did around 20 shots, trying to keep my swing consistent and smooth. I’m not trying to break any records here, just working on hitting the ball cleanly and in the direction I want.
I kept this up, increasing the distance by about 10-20 yards each time until I was hitting around 100-120 yards. This part is where I start to see where I need the most work. Sometimes I slice the ball, other times I hook it. It’s frustrating, but that’s why I’m here, right? To get better.

Once I got to my longer clubs, I really took my time. I used my driver a bit, but honestly, that club and I have a love-hate relationship. I hit a few decent shots, but I also had some that went all over the place. It’s a work in progress.
By the end, I was pretty tired but also felt like I accomplished something. I didn’t magically become a pro, but I definitely felt more comfortable with my swing. And that’s what matters. It’s all about putting in the time and effort. Plus, it was a beautiful day to be outside, so that’s a bonus.
So, that was my day at the driving range. I’ll probably go back next week and do it all again. Maybe I’ll even work on my putting. Baby steps, you know? But every little bit helps.
