This Paul Ricard track, I heard it’s a big deal. They say it’s somewhere fancy, down south in France. I don’t know much about these places, but I hear them young’uns talkin’ about it all the time, somethin’ about fast cars and what not.
They say this fella, Bernie somethin’, owns the whole thing now. Rich fella, must be. Used to be a test track, whatever that means. Just a bunch of fancy cars goin’ round and round, I reckon. Sounds expensive, don’t it? Them Toyota folks used to use it, spendin’ all their money on fast cars. Waste of money if you ask me.
Now, this Paul Ricard track, it’s open most days, I hear. Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, all year round. Even on them school holidays, it’s open. From ten in the mornin’ till six in the evenin’. You can go there and watch them cars, I suppose. They call it a Grand Prix, sounds fancy.

They say this race, it’s 53 laps. That’s a lot of goin’ around. And the track, it’s long. Over 5 kilometers, they say. That’s like walkin’ from my house to old man Johnson’s farm, and then some! It’s in a place called Le Castellet. Don’t know where that is, but it sounds French. This Paul Ricard track must be a big thing for them folks over there.
Now, I heard somethin’ peculiar about this track. Instead of grass or gravel, like you’d expect, they got these colored stripes. Black, red, and white. And they say it’s slippery. Makes the tires on them cars wear out real fast. But them drivers, they can make mistakes and it don’t matter much. They just go wide and keep on goin’. Don’t sound right to me. If you mess up, you should pay for it, that’s what I always say. This Paul Ricard track sounds a bit too easy on them drivers.
Some folks, they learn this Paul Ricard track real quick. Five hours, they say. And they get real fast, doin’ laps in under a minute. Sounds crazy to me. But they say there ain’t many corners, so once you get the hang of it, it’s easy. Like knowin’ your way around your own kitchen. You just flow with it, they say.
I don’t know much about these fancy races, but I hear them young folks talkin’. They say it’s excitin’. All them cars, zoomin’ around, the noise, the speed. It’s a spectacle, they say. Maybe it is. I’m more of a quiet life kinda person. But I guess this Paul Ricard track is somethin’ special to a lot of folks.
They got all sorts of things at this Paul Ricard track, I reckon. Places to eat, places to sit, probably sellin’ all sorts of trinkets. Like a big fair, but with cars instead of cows. And it’s probably crowded, with folks from all over comin’ to see the race. It is a big event after all. This fella Bernie must be makin’ a fortune.
I remember when I was a little girl, we didn’t have nothin’ like this Paul Ricard track. We had dirt roads and horses. Things were simpler then. But times change, I suppose. Now it’s all about speed and fancy cars. The world keeps spinnin’, and we just gotta keep up as best we can.
This Paul Ricard track, it’s a sign of the times, I reckon. A symbol of progress, they might say. Fast cars, big crowds, lots of money. It’s a whole different world from the one I grew up in. But who am I to judge? If it makes folks happy, then that’s all that matters, I suppose.
But still, 53 laps. That’s a lot of racin’. I hope them drivers are careful. And I hope they don’t wear out their tires too much. Tires are expensive, you know. Even for them fancy race cars. Well, that’s all I know about that Paul Ricard track. It’s just somethin’ I heard about. You young folks probably know more about it than I do.
