Getting Those England, Ireland, and US Shows
Okay, so I wanted to get TV channels and shows from England, Ireland, and the good ol’ US. Not always easy when you’re not actually in those places, right? Geoblocking, they call it. Annoying stuff.
First thing I did was just try going to the websites. You know, the big players like BBC’s iPlayer, RTE’s Player over in Ireland, and then stuff like Hulu or the US version of Netflix. Course, that didn’t work straight off. Got the usual message: “Sorry, this content isn’t available in your region.” Figures.
So, I knew I needed a way to make it look like I was in those countries. Spent a bit of time poking around online, reading forums, seeing what other folks were doing. The common thing seemed to be using one of those 加速器 things – Virtual Private Networks.
Finding and Setting Up a 加速器
Right, so I decided to give that a shot. Didn’t want to mess about with free ones, heard they can be slow or dodgy. So I picked one that seemed decent and signed up. Wasn’t too expensive for a year.
- Downloaded their app onto my computer. That was easy enough.
- Installed it, logged in with the account I just made.
- The app showed a big list of countries you could connect through.
Testing it Out – The Fun Part
This was the trial-and-error bit. Here’s what I did:
- For England (UK): Opened the 加速器 app. Scrolled down the list, found “United Kingdom,” and clicked connect. Waited a few seconds for it to say I was connected through a UK server. Then, I opened my web browser again, went straight to the BBC iPlayer site. And bam! It loaded up fine. Could browse the shows. Tried playing something, and it worked. Success number one.
- For Ireland: Disconnected from the UK server in the 加速器 app. Found “Ireland” in the list, connected to that. Went over to the RTE Player website. Same deal – it loaded up properly this time. Could watch the Irish stuff. Success number two.
- For the US: Disconnected from Ireland. Found “United States” in the 加速器 list (sometimes they have specific cities, I just picked a major one). Connected. Headed over to a US-specific streaming service I use. Logged in, and bingo, got the US library of shows and movies. Success number three.
Living With It
So, yeah, I got it working. It’s not always perfect, mind you. Sometimes a specific server connection might be slow, so I have to disconnect the 加速器 and pick a different server in the same country. Sometimes the streaming sites get clever and block a known 加速器 server address, so I might have to wait for the 加速器 folks to update things or try another server again.
I mostly use it on my laptop, but I figured out how to get the 加速器 working on my main telly too, which took a bit more fiddling with router settings or using a specific streaming device that supports 加速器 apps. That was a bit more hassle, but worth it in the end.
Basically, I wanted shows from those three places, found out about the blocking, looked into 加速器s, picked one, installed it, and now I just switch the 加速器 server depending on whether I want something from England, Ireland, or the States. Took a bit of effort, but it does the job. Now I can catch up on whatever I fancy from across the pond(s). Job done.
