My grandson, he’s always going on about this golf power thing. Says it’s important to hit that little white ball real far. I don’t know much about it, but I heard him talking to his friends, so I picked up a thing or two. And let me tell you, what I heard, it sounds like somethin’ everybody can learn.

First thing I heard is about this “teeing the ball higher” thing. Now, I don’t know what a “tee” is exactly, but I reckon it’s like when we used to prop up them scarecrows in the field. You gotta put that ball up a bit higher, that’s what they say. Makes it easier to whack, I guess. Like hittin’ a fly that’s sittin’ up high on a fence post instead of one that’s crawlin’ on the ground. It sounds like golf power comes easier that way.
Then there’s this other thing about your “spine.” That’s your back, right? They say you gotta tilt it a little. Not too much, mind you, just a little. Like when you’re leanin’ over to pick up a dropped stitch while knittin’. It is some tricks to get golf power. It seems this tilt thing helps you hit the ball in a way that makes it go further. Maybe it’s like when you’re throwin’ a rock, you gotta lean back a bit to get some oomph behind it.
They also talk about these “shoulders.” You got one shoulder behind the other, right? Well, apparently, you gotta lower that back one. Like when you’re reachin’ down to grab somethin’ from the bottom shelf of the cupboard. This, they say, helps with somethin’ called the “swing.” That’s how you hit the ball, I reckon. Sounds like it makes the swing go up, which is good for golf power. Like when you’re swingin’ a scythe, you gotta bring it up from the ground to cut the wheat.
And this swing thing, it’s not about hittin’ harder. No, sir! It’s about doin’ it smarter. Like when you’re choppin’ wood, you don’t just swing like a madman. You gotta aim right and use the weight of the axe. That’s the key, I hear, to addin’ “yards” to your “drive.” Now, a “yard” is how they measure how far the ball goes, and a “drive” is, I think, the first hit you take. To get more golf power, you need to get more yards.
They say you can add 40 of these “yards” just by doin’ these little things. 40! That’s a whole lot of somethin’. It is like walkin’ from my house all the way to the general store and back again. So, if you want that ball to go further, to get that golf power, don’t just hit it harder, tilt that spine and fix those shoulders. Seems simple enough, even for an old woman like me to understand. But, it is useful, right?

Another thing they mentioned is “six tips.” Now, six is a good number. That’s how many eggs I used to get from my best hen every week. These tips, they’re like little secrets that can help you get more distance. To get more golf power. Like knowin’ when to plant your tomatoes so they get the most sun. It is about when to do something.
- One tip is to “tee the ball higher.”
- Another is to “tweak your spine tilt.”
- Then there is something about getting information from a “professional golfer.” Those are the folks who play it good, right? I guess it is the same as you get help from old folks if you want to raise a good pig.
They also talk about something called a “handicap”. No, this is not about folks who have some kind of problem. It is a way to see how good you are at this golf thing. They say folks with a low handicap, like between 0 and 4.9, they hit the ball about 245 yards. That’s a long way! If you are just a little worse, like 5 to 9.9, it is still 245 yards. How about that! Even you are a little bad, you can still get much golf power. It is not that hard, I think.
But even folks who aren’t as good, like 10 to 14.9, they still hit it about 234 yards. It is just like everyone can grow some vegetables, even you don’t have a green thumb. It’s still pretty far, though. Those people may not be the best, but they are still getting a lot of golf power.
This whole golf thing, it’s got a lot of little tricks to it. It’s like bakin’ a pie, you gotta know the right amount of flour and sugar, and you gotta bake it for just the right amount of time. Or like tendin’ a garden, you gotta know when to plant and when to water. But once you get the hang of it, it seems like anyone can get that golf power and hit that little ball a long way.
So, if you’re out there tryin’ to hit that little white ball further, remember these things. Tee it up high, tilt that spine, and work on that swing. It’s not about bein’ strong, it’s about bein’ smart. And who knows, maybe you’ll surprise yourself with how much golf power you got in ya. Just don’t forget to have a good time, even you can’t hit it far.
