Find Bonnie Dundee Golf Course IL (Easy map and driving directions here)

Alright, so I finally made it out to Bonnie Dundee the other weekend. Heard about it from a buddy, said it was a decent track, not too pricey, so I figured, why not?

Got there Saturday morning. Finding the place was easy enough, right there off the main road. Parking lot wasn’t too packed when I arrived, which was nice. Headed into the clubhouse, or pro shop, whatever you call it. Seemed like a pretty standard setup. The guy behind the counter was friendly enough, got me checked in quick. No fuss.

Getting Ready

I decided to hit a few balls before heading out. They’ve got a range, nothing fancy, just some mats and flags out there. Sliced a few, hooked a few, you know how it goes. Just wanted to loosen up a bit. Rolled some putts on the practice green too. It seemed okay, maybe a touch slow, but consistent.

Grabbed my cart – standard electric cart, did the job. Loaded up the bag and headed to the first tee.

Out on the Course

The starter got me going pretty much on time. Paired me up with a couple of other guys, seemed like regulars. Nice enough fellas. The first few holes were, well, golf holes. Nothing too crazy right off the bat. The course looked pretty green, considering the time of year.

  • Fairways: They were mostly in decent shape. Some spots were a little thin, but overall, pretty good lies.
  • Greens: Like the practice green, they rolled true but were a bit on the slow side for my liking. Had to give the putts a good whack.
  • Bunkers: Found a couple, naturally. Sand was okay, not great, not terrible. Playable.

Pace of play wasn’t bad at all. We kept moving, waited a little bit on a couple of the par 3s, but nothing major. The layout itself is pretty traditional, I’d say. Lots of trees lining the fairways, so if you’re wild off the tee like me sometimes, you’ll be punching out. There are some water hazards sprinkled in that definitely make you think before you hit.

Memorable Bits

There was one par 5 on the back nine, I forget the number, that was pretty tough. Dogleg left, uphill approach. Made a mess of that one. But then I parred the next hole, a tricky little par 3 over some water, so it all evens out, right? That’s golf.

The conditions were generally fine. It’s not a super high-end country club, you know? It’s a local public course, and for what it is, they seem to keep it in pretty good shape. Saw the beverage cart come around a couple of times, which is always appreciated on a warm day.

Wrapping Up

Finished up the round in about four and a half hours, maybe a bit less. Shook hands with the guys I played with. Shot my typical score, nothing spectacular, but had a good time walking around, hitting the ball (sometimes in the right direction). Didn’t stick around for food or anything, just loaded the clubs back in the car and headed home.

Overall thoughts? Yeah, it was a solid day of golf. Bonnie Dundee is a decent, straightforward course. It challenges you enough without beating you up too badly, unless you’re really off your game. It’s not gonna blow you away with amazing views or championship conditions, but it’s a good value, folks were friendly, and the pace was good. I’d play it again for sure if I was in the area and looking for a round.
