Okay, here’s my blog post about my experience with the Islay golf course:

So, I finally got around to playing that Islay golf course I’d heard so much about. You know, the one everyone says is a “must-play”? Well, let me tell you, it was an experience, to say the least.
Getting Started
First off, I booked a tee time. I’d heard it can get busy, especially during peak season, so I made sure to do this well in advance. I simply called them. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The Journey Begins
The day arrived, and I packed my clubs, some extra balls (because, let’s be honest, I’m not a pro), and plenty of snacks and water. It’s a bit of a drive to get there, but honestly, the scenery along the way is stunning. It’s Islay, after all! Part of the fun is just getting there and taking in the views.
Teeing Off
When I arrived, I checked in at the pro shop. The staff there was super welcoming, and I got a quick rundown of the course layout. Then, it was time to hit the first tee. I have to admit, I was a little nervous. The wind was whipping, and those first few holes looked pretty intimidating.
The Course Itself
- The first few holes, I really struggled. My ball kept slicing to the right.
- I lost a couple of balls in the rough. The grass is THICK.
- But then, around the 5th hole, something clicked. I started to get into a rhythm.
- I even managed to par a couple of holes, which, for me, is a HUGE win.
The Highs and Lows
There were definitely some frustrating moments. Like that time I ended up in a bunker that felt like it was the size of a small swimming pool. Or when a sudden gust of wind sent my ball sailing into the ocean. But, there were also some amazing moments. Standing on the elevated tees, looking out at the incredible views, it just takes your breath away. I pulled out my phone to capture a few good views.

Wrapping Up
By the 18th hole, I was exhausted, but in a good way. I grabbed a well-deserved drink at the clubhouse and chatted with some of the other golfers. Everyone seemed to have had a similar experience – challenging, but incredibly rewarding.
Final Thoughts
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s not an easy course, but it’s an unforgettable one. Just be prepared for a bit of a battle, and don’t forget to bring your camera! And a lot of extra balls…just in case.
