Driving from Liverpool to Manchester: How Far it is?

Okay, so today I’m gonna share my little adventure figuring out the distance between Liverpool and Manchester. It was a pretty chill afternoon, and I was just curious, you know?

Driving from Liverpool to Manchester: How Far it is?

First things first, I fired up Google Maps. Obvious choice, right? I typed in “Liverpool to Manchester” and BAM! The map popped up showing me the route. I saw a couple of different options, which was cool.

The quickest route seemed to be via the M62 motorway. I noticed it said something like 34 miles and around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. Not too shabby!

But me being me, I wanted to explore other options. I clicked around a bit and found a route that went through some smaller towns. It looked a bit longer, maybe around 40 miles, and Google estimated it would take over an hour. I figured it’d be a scenic drive, but probably not the best if I was in a hurry.

Then I got to thinking, “What if I wanted to take the train?” So, I hopped over to the Trainline website. I punched in “Liverpool Lime Street” to “Manchester Piccadilly” and checked the train times.

Turns out, trains run pretty frequently between the two cities. The journey time was even quicker than driving, usually around 35-50 minutes. Score!

Driving from Liverpool to Manchester: How Far it is?
  • Driving (M62): ~34 miles, 45 mins – 1 hour (depending on traffic)
  • Driving (Scenic Route): ~40 miles, 1+ hour
  • Train: 35-50 mins

My Conclusion

Honestly, it’s not that far at all! Liverpool and Manchester are practically neighbors. For me, the train seems like the best option. Faster and less stressful than driving, especially if you hit rush hour.

It was a fun little exercise, and now I know exactly how far it is and the best ways to get there. Maybe I’ll plan a day trip soon!
