A Bit of a Search Today
Heard the news about Jerry West, you know. Another legend gone. Makes you think, doesn’t it? These guys, they feel like they’ll be around forever, and then, poof.
So, like a lot of folks, I suppose, I got a bit curious. You hear someone passes, especially someone that big, and you just kinda wonder about the arrangements. Not that I’m planning to send flowers or anything, just, you know, it’s part of the news cycle in your head.
My Little Hunt for Info
Fired up the old laptop this afternoon. Had a cup of tea, sat down, and thought, “Alright, let’s see.”
- Opened up my browser, the usual one.
- Typed in something straightforward, like “Jerry West funeral details” or “when is Jerry West service”. Kept it simple.
- Hit enter and started scrolling.
You get a lot of news articles, of course. Tributes, career highlights, everyone sharing their memories. Which is nice, good to see him remembered well. But the actual, specific “when and where” for the funeral? That was a bit harder to nail down.
Seems like that information isn’t really out there in big flashing lights, or at least, I didn’t stumble on it straight away. And you know what? That’s probably how it should be for a bit. Family needs their time, I reckon.
Reminds Me of Something Else…
It’s funny, this whole thing of trying to find out details. Reminds me of back when my old company, a small little place, was bought out. Nobody told us anything official for weeks. We were all just sitting there, wondering if we still had jobs. Every day, I’d try to search for news, “XYZ Corp acquisition of ABC Inc employee news,” anything. Nothing but rumors and a single, vague press release.
You’d think with the internet and all, information would be easy to get. And for some things, it is. But for others, especially personal stuff or things companies wanna keep quiet, it’s like hitting a brick wall. People would be whispering in corridors, “Heard anything? Seen anything online?” And mostly, it was just hot air.
Eventually, we all got called into a meeting and got the news, face to face. Some good, some bad. But the waiting, the not knowing, that was the worst part. Trying to piece things together from scraps of info online, it just made everyone anxious.
So, with this Jerry West thing, if the family’s keeping it private for now, good on them. Some things don’t need to be a public spectacle right away. We’ll all know when it’s time to know, I guess. Or maybe we won’t, and that’s okay too. Not everything is for public consumption, even for a public figure. My little search today just kinda hammered that home again for me. It’s not like trying to find out if you’re about to be laid off, thankfully. Just a bit of curiosity satisfied… or not, as the case may be. And life goes on.
