Discover Kiskiack Golf: A Hidden Gem for Golfers

Okay, so today I messed around with this thing called “Kiskiack Golf”. Honestly, I’d never heard of it before, but I saw some stuff online and figured, why not give it a shot? My golfing buddy, Mark, always says I need to work on my short game, so I thought this might help.

Getting Started

First, I had to figure out what this Kiskiack thing even was. Turns out, it’s like, a practice aid? Or a game? I’m still not 100% sure. It’s basically a set of these colored rings and markers that you put on the green.

I dumped everything out on my living room floor. It looked like a bunch of plastic circles and some weird, numbered flags. The instructions were, uh, not the clearest. Lots of diagrams, not a lot of plain English. So, I did what any reasonable person would do: I watched a couple of videos online.

Setting It Up

After watching some videos and it looks simple to do and it will be fun, I headed out to the backyard. We’ve got a little patch of grass that’s kinda like a putting green, if you squint. I started by laying out the biggest ring – that’s supposed to be the “outer” one. Then I placed the smaller rings inside, trying to follow the pattern from the video I saw. It felt a bit like setting up a really weird board game.

The little flags, or markers, whatever they are, those go inside the rings. Each one has a number, and I think the idea is to aim for different ones to practice different length putts. I scattered them around, trying to make it look somewhat official.

Actually Playing (Trying To, Anyway)

Okay, so here’s where it got interesting. I grabbed my putter and a few balls and started trying to hit the balls into the rings. The basic idea, as far as I could tell, is to score points based on which ring the ball lands in. Closer rings, more points. Makes sense, right?

My first few putts were…not great. I shanked one completely off the “green” and into the flower bed. Another one I hit way too hard, and it rolled all the way across the yard. I definitely need to work on my touch.

  • First Putt: Flower bed. Zero points.
  • Second Putt: Across the yard. Still zero points.
  • Third Putt: Finally landed in the outer ring! One point! (I think?)

I kept at it for about an hour. I did manage to get a few balls into the closer rings, so I guess that’s progress. It was actually kind of fun, even though I felt like a total beginner. It’s definitely different from just practicing on a regular putting green.

My Verdict (So Far)

Honestly, I’m still not sure if I’m doing it “right”. But I did feel like I was getting a better sense of distance control, which is what Mark keeps nagging me about. It’s definitely something I’ll try again. Maybe I’ll even invite Mark over and see if he can figure it out. He’s always up for a challenge, especially when it comes to golf.

So, that’s my Kiskiack Golf adventure for today. Not exactly a hole-in-one, but hey, at least I didn’t lose any balls in the flower bed (after that first one, anyway).
