Okay, so the other day, I was just messing around online, you know, killing time. And I somehow ended up reading about this wrestler, Cowboy Bill Watts. Now, I vaguely remember the name from when I was a kid, but I couldn’t have told you anything about him. Turns out, this guy had a pretty interesting career. And one thing that caught my eye was that he apparently played for a team called the Indianapolis Warriors. Now, I’m from Indiana, so this got me curious.
I started digging around, trying to find anything I could about this. First, I wanted to know more about Cowboy Bill himself. I found out that he was a big deal in the wrestling world back in the day. He was even in charge of something called World Championship Wrestling. This guy had a pretty big career, even having some part in this thing called the Universal Wrestling Federation, which used to be called Mid-South Wrestling Association. I even found out that his son, Erik Watts, was born in December 19.
The Indianapolis Warriors
Then I focused on this Indianapolis Warriors thing. Turns out, it wasn’t even a wrestling team. There was a World Football League back in the 70s, and the Warriors were one of the teams. I guess Cowboy Bill played for them for a bit. I tried to find out what position he played, what years he was there, all that good stuff. But honestly, there wasn’t much info out there. I did find that he was wrestling in places like Chicago, St. Louis, and Milwaukee around the late 60s. So maybe the football thing was before that? Or maybe he did both at the same time? I have no idea.
Dead End
So, yeah, that’s pretty much where my little research project ended. I didn’t find out a whole lot, but it was still a fun little trip down memory lane. It’s funny how you can start out just randomly clicking around online and end up learning something new. I still don’t know much about Cowboy Bill Watts’ time with the Indianapolis Warriors, but it was interesting to find out he even had a connection to football, let alone a team from Indiana. Who knew?
