Hey everyone, it’s your buddy here, and today I’m gonna talk about my experience with the Del Mar Futurity. Now, I’ve been following horse racing for a while, and this year’s Del Mar Futurity was something I was really looking forward to.

So, the Del Mar Futurity, it’s a big deal in the horse racing world, a Grade 1 race with a $300,000 purse. It was scheduled for Sunday, September 8th at the Del Mar racetrack. I started by checking out the buzz around the race. Everyone was talking about it, and there were predictions flying around like crazy.
First off, I looked up the date and made sure I had it right. September 8th, that was the day. Then I dug into some articles, and I saw this one expert, Ed DeRosa, talking about the odds. He was high on this horse called Citizen Bull, not the favorite, Getaway Car. That got me thinking, “Maybe there’s an underdog story here?”
I found out that this was the 77th time they were running the Del Mar Futurity, and it’s a big part of the closing day at Del Mar’s summer meet. It’s a seven-furlong race, which means it’s pretty fast, and it’s for 2-year-old horses, so basically the young guns of horse racing. These young horses are often seen as potential future stars, that’s what made this race so exciting.
My Preparation
I spent a good chunk of time gathering information. I read up on past races, checked out the horses, and tried to get a feel for who might win. There was this horse, Prince of Monaco, trained by Bob Baffert, that was the absolute favorite, like 1-9 odds. Everyone expected this horse to win, big time.
The Day of the Race
Come Sunday, I was glued to the screen. I watched the race live, and let me tell you, the atmosphere was electric, even through the screen. The race started, and it was intense. Horses were neck and neck, and the crowd was going wild. I kept my eyes peeled for Citizen Bull, hoping for that upset. But in the end, it was Prince of Monaco, the heavy favorite, that took the win. Baffert did it again, what a trainer!

Post-Race Thoughts
Even though my underdog pick didn’t win, it was still a great experience. I got to see some top-notch racing and learned a lot more about the sport. It’s not just about who wins, but also about the stories, the training, and the sheer excitement of it all.
What I learned
- Research is Key: Going into this, I realized how important it is to do your homework. Reading up on the horses, the trainers, and the race itself gave me a much better understanding of what to expect.
- Favorites Aren’t Always a Sure Thing: Even though Prince of Monaco won, I saw how unpredictable horse racing can be. There’s always a chance for an upset.
- Enjoy the Experience: Win or lose, it was a blast to be part of the excitement. I enjoyed every minute of it, from the anticipation to the actual race.
So, that’s my Del Mar Futurity story. It was a fun ride, and I can’t wait for next year’s race. Until next time, keep it real, folks!
