Okay, here’s my blog post about my “dave lopes baseball” experience, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I got it in my head to really dig into Dave Lopes’ career stats. You know, the old-school Dodgers base stealer? I always remembered him being lightning-fast, but I wanted the numbers.
First, I gotta find a good source, right? Nothing beats just going straight for it. I needed those raw numbers.
Diving into the Data
I spent a good chunk of yesterday evening scrolling through the site. So many tables! I was mostly looking for his stolen base totals and success rate, year by year. It took some digging, you know, to isolate the seasons I really cared about – mostly those prime Dodgers years.
- Finding the Right Years: First, I isolated his peak seasons, skimming past his early and later years.
- Focus on Stolen Bases: Next, I zeroed in on the SB (stolen bases) and CS (caught stealing) columns. That’s where the real action is.
- Calculating Success Rate: For each year, I did the quick math: SB / (SB + CS). That gives you the percentage of successful steals.
After collecting it all, I made this simple summary in my text editor. I’m no spreadsheet wizard, it is just plain text.
Man, it really confirms what I thought! The dude was consistently swiping bags at a crazy high rate. Like, seriously impressive, even by today’s standards.

This was a fun little trip down memory lane. Made me appreciate those old-school players even more. I have used those data to refresh my memory. It’s cool to see the data back up the legend, you know?
