Compare KLR650S Seat Height to Other Dual Sport Bikes

So, I’ve been riding my KLR650 for a while now, and that seat height was killing me every time I hopped on. I’m not exactly tall, and sitting there felt like perching on a mountain, you know? Couldn’t even touch the ground properly, and it just ruined my fun.

Figuring Out What To Do

First off, I decided enough was enough. I went online and looked up some stuff on forums—nothing fancy, just regular folks talking about how they fixed their seats. Found out you can get a kit that lowers it, so I ordered one. It came in a plain box a few days later, and I opened it up like a kid on Christmas.

  • Started by gathering my tools: basic wrenches, a screwdriver, and some old rags.
  • Then took the bike out to my garage. It was messy in there, but I cleared a spot and propped the KLR on its stand.

Next up, I got my hands dirty. Pulled off the seat cushion—took some force, but it popped loose. Underneath, I saw all these bolts holding everything down. Screwed them out carefully, not wanting to strip anything.

The Real Work

Now, installing the new lower kit was trickier. I had to line up the holes just right, and my hands were shaking a bit—kept dropping the washers! Took a break, had a coffee, and came back fresh. Snugged the bolts back in tight, checked everything twice.

Finally, put the seat back on and sat down for a test. Wow, what a difference! I could actually plant my feet flat on the ground now. No more tippy-toeing or wobbling off when I stop. Rode around the block, and it felt like a whole new ride.

In the end, it was totally worth the hassle. Saved some cash by doing it myself, and now my KLR feels like it’s made for me. If you’re dealing with a high seat, just grab a kit and give it a go—took me maybe an hour, tops.
