Okay, so, I tried to figure out this whole “college football bracket” thing today. It’s, like, a big deal, apparently? I saw a bunch of people talking about it online and got curious. First, I kind of just browsed around to see what it was all about.

I found out that it’s this system to pick which college football teams are the best and have them play against each other. I think they call it the “College Football Playoff.” It sounded kind of cool, so I decided to dig a little deeper.
I started with trying to get the updated bracket. Then, I tried looking for what the “experts” were saying. Some websites had these people who apparently know a lot about football, and they were making their picks for who would win each game. It was kind of overwhelming, to be honest. All these different opinions, and I barely know the teams!
I went down a rabbit hole of updates. There were a few websites that were giving updates in real-time about which teams were in the bracket. It kept changing! One team, Oregon, was apparently undefeated and ranked number one. They kept talking about a possible rematch with another team called Ohio State. It sounded intense!
Then there was some talk about a team called “SMU” getting the last spot. I had no idea what that meant, but people online seemed excited about it. Honestly, I’m still not sure. Also, I think I saw something about the first round already being over, and the next round starting soon. Or maybe it was last Tuesday night? Man, this thing moves fast!
- Looked up what the “College Football Playoff” is.
- Tried to find the bracket.
- Read some expert predictions.
- Followed some live updates.
- Got confused about SMU.
- Figured out that they use committee rankings to pick teams.
- They apparently change the format every few years.
Then, finally, I learned about some teams called Penn State and Notre Dame. They are playing against each other. I guess it’s a big deal because it’s in the semifinals?

Then I started to piece it all together. They apparently have this whole system where a committee ranks the teams each week. And at the end of the season, they pick the top teams to go into this playoff. I think I read that they’re going to change it to 12 teams soon? It’s all a bit much for me, but I think I get the basic idea now.
It took me a while, but I think I finally understand what this college football bracket thing is all about. I still don’t know much about the teams, but I guess it’s kind of like a big tournament to see who’s the best. Maybe I’ll try to watch some of the games. Or maybe not. We’ll see!
