Alright, so the other day I had a bit of free time on my hands and the weather was holding up, surprisingly. Decided to dust off the clubs and head over to Clifton Park Golf. I’d heard a few things here and there, mostly just that it’s a local spot, so figured I’d go see for myself what it was all about. Didn’t book or anything, just chanced it.

Getting there was easy enough, navigation took me right to the entrance. Parking, well, that was a bit of a hunt. Seemed like a busy afternoon, or maybe they just need a few more spots. Found one eventually, a bit of a walk from the clubhouse, but no big deal. Fresh air, right?
Wandered into the pro shop. It’s a pretty straightforward setup. The chap behind the counter was pleasant, got me sorted with a tee time fairly quickly. Paid my green fee, which was reasonable enough for a casual round. No fancy welcomes or anything, just efficient, which is fine by me. Grabbed a scorecard and a pencil and made my way to the first tee.
Hitting the Links
The course itself? Well, it’s a parkland course, as the name suggests. The layout was pretty clear, nothing too confusing. The first few holes were a decent warm-up. The condition of the fairways was, let’s say, variable. Some patches were lush, others were a bit thin and worn. You know how it is with some municipal courses; they get a lot of play. You take the good with the bad.
I did notice the greens were a bit on the slow side and had a few bobbles here and there. Made putting a bit of an adventure. You’d hit what you thought was a perfect putt, and then it would just take a little detour of its own. Kept me on my toes, I suppose. You adapt your game.
There was one particular par 4, I think it was around the turn, that had a tricky dogleg. You really had to place your tee shot right, or you were blocked out by trees. I, of course, managed to flirt with those trees but got a lucky bounce back into play. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, eh?

Pace of play wasn’t too bad for the most part, though it did bunch up a little on the back nine. Had to wait on a few tees, which is pretty standard stuff on a sunny afternoon. Gave me a chance to take a swig of water and contemplate my next shank.
Final Thoughts After the Round
So, after holing out on the 18th, I headed back. Didn’t hang around for a drink or anything, just packed up my gear. My overall feeling? Clifton Park Golf is pretty much what you’d expect from a convenient, local course. It’s not going to win any awards for pristine conditions, but it offers a decent enough challenge for an average golfer like myself looking to just get out and play.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I thought:
- It’s accessible and gets you out playing golf without much fuss.
- The price was fair for what’s on offer.
- Don’t expect championship-level maintenance, but it’s playable.
- It can get busy, so patience is a virtue.
Would I go back? Yeah, probably. If I’m in the area and just want a straightforward round without any airs and graces, Clifton Park fits the bill. It serves its purpose, and sometimes that’s all you need from a golf course. It was a decent way to spend an afternoon.
