Okay, so the other day, I decided to check out the Chicago Cubs batting practice. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, really. I’ve always been a Cubs fan, and I figured, why not see them up close?

First off, I got to Wrigley Field early. Like, really early. The gates opened at 5:00 PM for a 7:00 PM game, and I was there right when they opened the doors. I heard that’s the best way to catch the Cubs during their batting practice, and I was not going to miss it. It was pretty cool being one of the first people inside. I also learned that you could even watch the batting practice before the tour time between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. This might be a better option if you don’t want to watch the game that day.
Getting into the stadium was easy. They let in people with small bags – like, 9×5 inches or smaller, which was good because I had a small purse with me. Also, I saw some people with fanny packs and some with small strollers. No big backpacks or anything like that. And yeah, they allow small food like snacks. I didn’t bring any food with me, but that’s good to know for next time.
- Arrived at Wrigley Field at 5:00 PM.
- Entered with a small purse (9×5 inches).
- Saw others with fanny packs and small strollers.
- Noted that small amounts of food are allowed.
Once I was inside, I went straight to the outfield area. I wanted to see if I could snag an autograph or two. I stood by the wall near the outfield dugouts, which is apparently a good spot. I didn’t get any autographs this time, but it was still fun to watch the players warm up and hit some balls.
The batting practice itself was awesome. Seeing the players in a more relaxed setting was a different experience. They were hitting some serious long balls! I tried to catch a fly ball, but no luck. I guess my baseball skills aren’t what they used to be.
I noticed that Sundays might be a bit different. I heard that the tour guides take you onto the field before batting practice starts if you’re on a tour. That sounds like a cool way to get even closer to the action. I might try that next time.

All in all, it was a great experience. Showing up early is definitely the way to go if you want to see the Cubs batting practice. I didn’t get any autographs or catch any balls, but just being there, watching them practice, was worth it. Plus, I got some good tips for next time, like bringing a snack and maybe trying the tour on a Sunday.
Tips for next time:
- Bring a snack.
- Consider a Sunday tour for field access.
- Practice catching fly balls beforehand.
It was a fun day out, and I’d definitely recommend it to any Cubs fan. Just remember to get there early!
