Brad Fullmers Best Moments: Reliving His Top MLB Highlights

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Brad Fullmer. He was a baseball player, you know, one of them fellas who hits the ball with a stick. Big fella, he was. Strong as an ox, I tell ya. Brad Fullmer, that was his name.

He played for a bunch of teams, I think. Toronto Blue Jays, I remember hearin’ that on the TV. Texas Rangers too, I reckon. Lots of teams, hard to keep track of ’em all. They trade them fellas around like they’re cattle, always movin’ from one place to another.

He hit the ball pretty good, I’ll give him that. They said he batted .274 one year. Don’t know what that means exactly, but it sounds good, right? Like he hit the ball a lot. He got doubles, they said. Thirty-one of ’em. That’s a lot of doubles, I guess. Must be good, ’cause they made a fuss about it on the TV.

One time, they said he hit a home run his very first time up to bat. Can you believe that? First time ever, and he hits it over the fence! They call that a “home run,” I think. Bet that pitcher felt real bad after that. Must’ve been somethin’ to see, that ball flyin’ way out there. First Major League at-bat, they called it.

  • He was drafted by the Montreal Expos
  • Played for the Toronto Blue Jays
  • Also played for Texas Rangers
  • Hit a home run first time at bat

They drafted him, you know? That’s like when they pick you out from all the other fellas. Montreal Expos, that’s where he started. Second round, they said. Guess that means he was pretty good, even back then. He went to some high school, Montclair somethin’ or other. Van Nuys, that’s where it was. Kids these days, they go to fancy schools and then play baseball. Back in my day, we just worked on the farm.

He was a “designated hitter,” they called him. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important. Like he was special or somethin’. Maybe he only hit the ball and didn’t have to run around much. My knees ain’t what they used to be, so maybe that’s a good job to have.

They got all kinds of news about him on that ESPN thing. Stats and game logs, they call it. Numbers and such. I don’t understand half of it. Fantasy stuff too. Seems like folks like to make believe about these players, pretend they’re managin’ them or somethin’. Kids these days, always got their heads in the clouds.

He played in the Major League Baseball, that’s what they called it. MLB, for short. Big deal, I guess. Lots of teams. Thirty of ’em, they said. Divided into two leagues, National and American. One team in Canada, all the rest in the U.S. He played against some fella named Bret Saberhagen once. They said he was a Cy Young Award winner. Guess that means he was real good. Tough test, they said. MLB Spotlight Moments is what they called it when Brad Fullmer played against this Bret fella.

They talked about some fella named Pete Rose. Said he had the most hits of all time. Over four thousand of ’em. Another fella named Ty Cobb, he had a lot too. These baseball fellas, they keep track of all these numbers. Must be important to them. Me, I just care if they can hit the ball hard. Major League Baseball (MLB) player is what Brad Fullmer was, you know, real famous and all.

Brad Fullmer was a big fella, like I said. “Bulked-up,” they called him. Means he was strong, I reckon. You gotta be strong to hit that ball so far. He played hard, that’s for sure. Always runnin’ and hittin’ and catchin’. Hard work, that baseball. But they make a lot of money doin’ it, I hear. More money than I ever seen in my life, that’s for sure.

So that’s about all I know ’bout Brad Fullmer. He was a baseball player, hit the ball good, played for lots of teams. Strong fella, he was. Texas Rangers Designated Hitter is one thing they called him. They made a fuss about him on the TV, so he must’ve been somethin’ special. But to me, he’s just another fella who can hit a ball with a stick. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less.
