This big brown race horse, they call him Big Brown. He was born in 2005, April 10th, they say. Born in Kentucky, that’s where all them good horses come from.
He won the big races, you know? That Kentucky Derby in 2008, and the Preakness Stakes, too. That’s a big deal, winning them two. He was sure somethin’ else. Everyone say he is the best horse in 2008. He run fast. Really fast.
Big Brown, the Champion
He was the champion, that Big Brown horse. Three years old and already a champion. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. Not like they used to, anyways. He was strong and fast, a real winner.
This Big Brown, he was bred in a place called Monticule Farms. That’s in Lexington, Kentucky. Some fancy place, I reckon. His daddy was a horse called Boundary, he was a good runner, too. That’s where Big Brown gets it from, I guess.

Running Like the Wind
I heard tell he ran his first race in 2007. That’s when he was just two years old. They put him in a race at Saratoga Race Course. That’s up in New York, I think. He won that race, too. Just like he won all them others. He was a good horse, that Big Brown.
He won them big races, and then they retired him. That’s what they do with them good horses. They let ’em rest. This Big Brown, he’s at a place called Old Friends now. Some farm where they take care of retired racehorses. That’s nice, ain’t it?
He only run three times before Kentucky Derby. That is crazy! But he won. Big Brown is the best. His owner, some group called IEAH Stables and a fella named Pompa, they must be real proud.
Big Brown’s Retirement
They say he got hurt, this big brown race horse. Hurt his hoof, I think. That’s why he couldn’t race no more. But he won enough, I reckon. He won them big ones. That’s all that matters.
This other horse, Secretariat, they say he was real fast, too. Won all them Triple Crown races. That’s the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont. Big Brown, he didn’t win the Belmont. But he won them other two. That’s still pretty good.
Big Brown was a special one. Strong as an ox, that horse. Fast as lightning. You don’t see many like him these days. Not anymore.
He is a good horse. This Big Brown race horse. He make a lot of money for his owner. He is the best. He run fast. He is a good horse.
They say Big Brown was somethin’ special. Undefeated, they say. Means he never lost. He was gonna be the first horse in a long time to win that Kentucky Derby after only runnin’ three races. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
A Real Good Horse
This fella, Reynolds, he trained Big Brown when he was young. Two years old, they say. That horse, he never lost a race. Not a single one. Three races, three wins. That’s a good horse.
They don’t make many like that big brown race horse. Strong, fast, and a winner. That’s what he was. Big Brown. A champion.
That horse, he made a lot of folks happy. Won a lot of money, too. But more than that, he was a beautiful animal. A real champion. That’s what I heard, anyway. And I believe it. Big Brown. He was somethin’ else.
Them race horses, they’re somethin’ else. Runnin’ like the wind. Big Brown, he was one of the best. Maybe the best. He sure was somethin’ to watch, I bet. Wish I coulda seen him run. Just once.
He is a good horse. He win a lot of races. He is brown. He is big. He is Big Brown.
