So this morning I realized I wanted to catch the President’s big speech live. Figured knowing exactly when was step one, right? Easy peasy? Nah.
The Initial Goof-Up
Grabbed my coffee, sat down feeling smart. Just typed “Biden speech today” into the search bar like a normal person. Boom, tons of links. Clicked on one from a major news site first – huge mistake. Big headline about the speech… but no actual time listed anywhere! Just said “later today”. Useless.
Checked a couple other general news places same deal. Lots of chatter about the speech, zero info on when. My coffee was gettin’ cold and I was gettin’ annoyed.
Where I Actually Found It
Took me way too long to remember the obvious place: the actual official schedule. Went hunting specifically for that. Searched “official white house schedule today”.
- Found the site, scrolled past like five boring meetings.
- Spotted it: “Remarks on Economic Policy”. Finally! But… time listed in EST? C’mon guys.
- Panic checked my own clock. Coffee splashed a little. “Is that Eastern? Am I EST?” Nope, forgot I’m CDT.
Had to do the math in my head: If it’s 1:30 PM EST… that’s 12:30 PM for me. Right? Simple subtraction never feels simple first thing.
Double-checked with that timezone converter thing I never remember the name of. Yep, 12:30 PM my time. Got it.
The Almost-Too-Late Realization
Settled back, thought I was golden. Decided to refresh the official schedule page about 20 minutes before go-time… just in case. Good thing!
It changed! Speech got pushed back like 15 minutes! That “1:30 PM EST” was now “1:45 PM EST”. Official note: “Timing updated”. Mild internal screaming commenced. Why they gotta change it last minute?
Recalculated quick: 12:45 PM my time. Scrambled to adjust my alarm.
The Tense Setup
Tried connecting my laptop to the bigger TV screen five minutes before.
- Wireless screencast decides to freeze. Classic.
- Cable! Dug out the HDMI cable finally.
- Plugged it in… sound didn’t work through the TV. Just my luck.
Frantic volume adjustment duel between laptop and TV remote got sound sorta working as the intro music started. Whew. Made it. Mostly. Still felt like a hot mess express. But hey, saw the speech live. Mission accomplished. Barely.
