BBWAA Awards Finalists: Who Made the Cut This Year and Who Do You Think Will Win?

Well, well, well, lookie here! They’re talkin’ ’bout them BBWAA awards again. Sounds like a big to-do, don’t it? All them fancy baseball folks gettin’ all gussied up. I reckon it’s like our county fair, but with more…baseball-y things.

BBWAA Awards Finalists: Who Made the Cut This Year and Who Do You Think Will Win?

They got all sorts of prizes, these BBWAA awards. One fella, that Aaron Judge, he’s a big fella. He won somethin’ called “Most Valuable Player”. Must be good at hittin’ that ball. I seen him on the TV once. Hit that ball real far. Fifty-eight, that was the number. That fella’s gonna give me a backache just watchin’ him!

And then there’s this other fella, Shohei Ohtani. They say he’s gonna win somethin’ big. Heard he hit 54 home runs. Fifty-four! Lord have mercy, that’s a lotta runnin’. He must be eatin’ his Wheaties. I reckon he runs faster than a chicken with its head cut off! Good for him, I say. These folks did really good jobs in 2024.

Then they got some other awards. One’s called the “Cy Young”. Don’t know who Cy is, but I reckon he’s important. Sounds like a fella who might know a thing or two about pitchin’. I hope he’s got good stuff.

  • They got somethin’ for the new fellas, too. “Rookie of the Year”, they call it.
  • Like when young Jimmy down the road got that prize pig at the fair. He was the rookie, and that pig was somethin’ else.
  • I bet these baseball rookies are somethin’ else, too.

And then there’s the managers. Now, them’s the fellas who tell everyone else what to do. Like the boss men. They got an award for them, too. “Manager of the Year”, it’s called.

  • A.J. Hinch, that’s one of ’em. He’s with the Tigers.
  • Then there’s Matt Quatraro with the Royals, and Stephen Vogt with the Guardians.
  • They say Carlos Mendoza and Pat Murphy are up there too. It’s good to see folks get recognized for keeping things running.

Sounds like a whole lotta names to remember. But that’s alright. These fellas are important. It’s good to see folks doing well, I suppose. It’s like pickin’ the best apple pie at the bake-off. Everyone worked hard, but only one gets the blue ribbon. I guess the BBWAA awards are like a big blue ribbon.

They got somethin’ called the “Career Excellence Award”. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like you get a gold watch or somethin’. This year it’s for some fella named Thomas Boswell. He writes about baseball, they say. Must be good at it to get an award. They been givin’ out that award since, when was it? 1962, I heard. That’s a long time ago.

All these BBWAA awards, they’re a big deal, I reckon. They say the big shots at the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, that’s what the BBWAA stands for. They’re the ones who pick the winners. Must be a tough job, like pickin’ the best tomato at the farmer’s market. They gotta look at all them baseball players and managers and writers and decide who’s the best. That’s a lot of responsibility!

They announced who’s in the runnin’ for these awards. Finalists, they call ’em. Sounds important, like they’re in the finals of a hog-callin’ contest or somethin’. And they’re gonna tell us who won next week. Guess we’ll have to wait and see, like waitin’ for the rain to come in a dry spell. I hope it’s good news for those folks.

So, there you have it. All that talk about the BBWAA awards. It’s a big deal in the baseball world, I suppose. Like our county fair is a big deal around here. Lots of excitement and prizes and folks gettin’ recognized for doin’ good work. That’s always a good thing, ain’t it? Even if it’s just baseball, it’s still somethin’ to celebrate. I reckon even this old lady can appreciate that.
