My Little Adventure: The McDonald’s Golf Chase
Alright, so let me tell you about this little mission I went on recently. It all started when I saw my nephew glued to the TV watching some McDonald’s ad. They were pushing these new Happy Meal toys, some kind of mini golf set things. He got that look in his eye, you know? Kept talking about the little putter one. So, I thought, why not? Be the cool uncle, grab him the toy.

First Try: The Local Drive-Thru
So after work, I swung by the McDonald’s closest to my place. Went through the drive-thru, ordered a Happy Meal. Simple enough, right? When I got to the window to pay, I specifically asked the person there, “Hey, you got that little golf putter toy for the Happy Meal?” They kinda gave me a blank stare for a second. Then they mumbled something, turned around, grabbed a box, and handed over the meal. Got back home, opened it up… nope. It was some weird movie character thing. Useless. Felt a bit cheated, honestly.
Second Attempt: Lunch Break Stakeout
Didn’t give up, though. A couple of days later, I decided to try a different McDonald’s near where I work during my lunch break. This time I went inside. Figured face-to-face might work better. Ordered the Happy Meal again. Made sure to ask nice and clear, “Looking for the golf toy, the little putter if you have it?” The young woman at the counter actually knew what I meant this time! Small victory. But then she said, “Oh, sorry, we’re all out of those right now. Maybe try back later this week?” Dang. Closer, but still no cigar. At least they knew it existed.
Third Time’s the Charm?

So, Friday rolls around. I think, okay, one last try. Went back to the same McDonald’s I visited during lunch earlier in the week. A bit of a line this time. Got to the counter, ordered the meal – again. And asked – again. “Any chance you got that golf Happy Meal toy in stock today? The putter?” The guy actually nodded! Said he thought they had a few. He disappeared into the back for a minute. I was just standing there, waiting. He comes back, opens the Happy Meal box slightly, shows me the little plastic putter and ball. Bingo!
The Payoff
- Finally got the specific toy.
- Paid for my meal, feeling weirdly accomplished.
- Took it over to my nephew’s place that weekend.
He was pretty stoked when I gave it to him. Played with it on the living room carpet for maybe, like, 15 minutes solid. Then, zoom, back to his video games. Kids, huh? But hey, mission accomplished. It was kind of a silly hassle for a cheap piece of plastic, but seeing him happy for that short bit made the runaround feel worth it. Sometimes you just gotta do these little things, you know?
