Aerox 50cc: Everything You Need to Know About This Zippy Scooter(Heres a quick guide to what makes it so popular)

I’ve been wanting to get into the scooter scene for a while now, and after doing a ton of research, I finally pulled the trigger on a Yamaha Aerox 50cc. I know, I know, some of you might be thinking, “Why a 50cc?” Well, I live in a pretty congested city, and I figured a smaller engine would be perfect for zipping around, and let me tell you, I was right! Plus, it’s way cheaper on insurance, which is always a bonus. Also it is a performance scooter and I wanted to have fun too, so it gives me that performance while carving through corners.

So, the day I went to pick it up, I was buzzing with excitement. The scooter was even better looking in person than in the pictures – a sleek, blue model with some really sharp lines. Yamaha’s recent motorcycles sport a stylish, modern, and somewhat edgy design philosophy, and the Mio Aerox is no different.

The first thing I did was take it for a spin around the block. I gotta say, even though it’s just a 50cc, that thing can move! It’s surprisingly peppy off the line, and it handles like a dream. Weaving through traffic is a breeze, and parking is ridiculously easy.

My Modification

  • The dealer told me about some restrictions that were in place to keep it street-legal, and honestly, 30mph just wasn’t cutting it for me. And the dealer told me speed limiter is very hard to bypass.
  • The guy at the shop recommended I remove the variator restriction. Apparently, it’s a pretty common mod, and it’s supposed to give you a decent boost in top speed.
  • I also swapped out the stock exhaust for a Gianelli Go exhaust. Nothing too crazy, but it sounds a bit throatier now, and I think it might have added a little extra oomph. I kept the stock air filter and reed for now, though.
  • And I also installed a 17.5mm carb, hoping it could give me more power.

After all that, the first thing I did was take my aerox 50cc out for a test ride. I was pretty impressed! The acceleration felt a bit quicker, and the top speed definitely increased. I haven’t done any official tests, but I’d guess it’s hitting around 55-60km/h now, which is plenty for city riding.

My Thoughts

Overall, I’m super stoked with my Aerox 50cc. It’s the perfect little city commuter, and it’s been a blast to ride. Even though lack of space on the foot floor can make it unsuitable for some and it has stiff rear Suspension, it is a small problem for me. If you’re looking for a fun, practical, and stylish way to get around, I definitely recommend checking it out. Plus, it’s a great platform for modding if you’re into that sort of thing. I’m already thinking about what I want to do next… maybe a big bore kit? We’ll see!
