Okay, so “half of one and a half”… sounds simple enough, right? I thought so too. I decided to play around with this little math problem and document the whole thing, just for kicks.

My Little Experiment
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Old school, I know. I wanted to visualize this thing.
- I started by writing down “1 1/2”. That’s one and a half, in case you’re wondering.
- Then, I remembered that 1 1/2 is the same as 3/2. Much easier to work with.
- Next, I needed to find half of that. So, I wrote down “3/2 ÷ 2”.
- I could have just multiplied 3/2 by 1/2 (which is the same as dividing by 2), and I did that to double-check, to make it easy.
- I did the division…and I wrote a big question to ask myself what’s the result.
- 3/2 1/2= 3/4. Ta-da!
I double-checked it using a calculator app on my phone, it’s same answer with me, making me so happy.
So, there you have it. Half of one and a half is three-quarters (3/4), or 0.75 if you’re into decimals. I went through this whole process, and it was kind of fun, actually.
