Improve Your Game: Understanding Average Drive Distance in Golf.

Okay, so I’ve been trying to figure out my average driving distance in golf lately. It’s one of those things that you hear the pros talk about, and I wanted to see where I stood. So, I started tracking it.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed a way to actually measure my drives. I don’t have any fancy equipment, so I just used a golf app on my phone that has * are a ton of these apps, I just picked on that got good review.

My Tracking Method:

  • Tee Off: I’d hit my drive like normal.
  • Find the Ball: Walked up to my ball (no cart for this experiment!).
  • Mark the Spot: Used the app to mark where my ball landed.
  • Repeat: Did this for every drive on the course.

The Data Grind

I played a few rounds, just my usual weekend games, and made sure to track every drive. The app automatically calculated the distance between the tee box (where I started) and where I marked the ball. Easy peasy!

After each round, I jotted down the distances in a notebook. Yeah, I’m a little old-school like that. I just wanted to see all the numbers in front of me.

Figuring Out the Average

Once I had, say, data from 3 rounds or even more, I did some simple math. Totaled up all the drive distances and divided by the number of drives. That’s my average, just simple and basic.

My Results (So Far!)

I’m still doing this, trying to get a really good sense of my average. It’s been fluctuating a bit, you know, some days are better than others! But, I am starting to see a general range where most of my drives fall. I thought that is cool.

It’s also been kinda motivating. Knowing my average helps me set realistic goals on the course. And, let’s be honest, it’s fun to try and beat my average on a good day!

I will keep tracking and see if I can improve it over time. Maybe I’ll try some different techniques or even look at some clubs, who knows! It’s all part of the game, right?
