So, I’ve been messing around with my Harley lately, the one with the 1200cc engine. I was really curious about how much horsepower this thing actually puts out. You know, you hear all these numbers thrown around, but I wanted to see for myself.
First, I tried to find some reliable info online. I looked at forums, manufacturer specs, and a bunch of other websites. Let me tell you, it was a mess! Everyone had different numbers, and I had no idea what to believe. I was finding numbers with dyno reports, but I don’t have that equipment, so that got me nowhere.
Then, I decided I needed to get my hands dirty. I started by checking my bike’s manual. It had some basic engine specs, but nothing too specific about horsepower. It gave me a starting point, I guess, but it did not satisfy my curiosity.
Next, I talked to a couple of buddies who are really into bikes. One of them has a similar Harley, and he suggested checking the torque, which he said he looked at in the past. Apparently, that can give you a better idea of the real power, which can be done with a torque wrench and some elbow grease. This was a good idea, but did not measure horsepower.
Ultimately, I realized that getting a precise horsepower number without the special equipment wasn’t really gonna happen. All I could do was get a rough estimate based on what I found online and what my friends told me. I wish I could give you an exact number, but all I could do was average all the numbers I found together. It’s probably somewhere in that ballpark, but I’ll need some specialized tools to know for sure.
