Okay, so I wanted to make a Pats logo, and I figured, why not document the whole messy process? It’s not like I’m a pro designer or anything, but I like to tinker, and I thought it would be fun to share my little adventure.

Getting Started – The Idea
First, I needed a basic idea. I mean, it’s a Pats logo, so it’s gotta have that iconic, you know…Patriot. I started by just Googling some images – you know, just to get the juices flowing. I wasn’t trying to copy anything directly, just wanted to see what other people had done and get a feel for the common elements.
The Tools (aka What I Could Find Lying Around)
Next up: tools. I didn’t want to spend any money, so I used a free online image editor. I’m pretty sure there are tons of these things out there, but it did the job. I mostly used the shape tools. A lot of circles, squares, and that weird polygon thingy.
The Messy Middle – Trial and Error (Lots of Error)
This is where things got…interesting. I started by trying to draw the basic outline of the Patriot’s head. Let me tell you, drawing with a mouse is hard. My first attempt looked more like a deformed potato than a fearsome Patriot.
Here’s a breakdown of my struggles:
- The Chin: Seriously, getting that strong jawline right was a nightmare. Too pointy, and he looked like a villain. Too round, and he looked like he’d been eating too many donuts.
- The Eyes: Oh, the eyes. Making them look both fierce and, well, not cross-eyed was a challenge. I spent way too long nudging pixels around.
- The Hat: The tricorn hat is kind of key, right? But getting the angles and proportions correct was surprisingly tricky. I kept ending up with something that looked more like a crumpled paper boat.
Coloring and Final (Ugh) Touches
After I finally had something that resembled a Patriot, I started adding colors. I went with the classic red, white, and blue, obviously. I messed around with gradients and shading for a while, trying to make it look, at all professional.

The Result?
So, after all that, did I end up with a masterpiece? Absolutely not. But, it’s my messy little Pats logo. It’s got character, even if that character is “slightly lopsided and possibly cross-eyed.” And hey, I learned a few things along the way. Next time I take on a drawing challenge, I’m starting with a pencil and paper.
