Triple Crown Lane: Is This The Perfect Neighborhood For You?

Okay, so “Triple Crown Lane” – sounds fancy, right? I had this idea to create a little automated system for my garden, specifically for watering my three prize-winning rose bushes. I call them my “Triple Crown,” hence the name.

Triple Crown Lane: Is This The Perfect Neighborhood For You?

Getting Started

First, I gathered all my materials. This was mostly stuff I had lying around:

  • An old garden hose
  • Some plastic tubing
  • A cheap water timer from the hardware store
  • Duct tape (lots of it!)
  • A few zip ties

I started by laying out the hose along the base of the rose bushes. Then, I cut the plastic tubing into three equal lengths, one for each bush. I poked small holes along each tube – these would be the “drip” points for the water.

Putting It All Together

Next, I attached each tube to the main hose. I just kinda jammed them in there and secured them with a generous amount of duct tape. It wasn’t pretty, but it seemed to hold. I used zip ties to keep the tubing in place close to the base of each rose bush. I also wrapped tape to prevent it from getting lose.

The Timer

This was the “brains” of the operation. I screwed the water timer onto the outdoor faucet and then connected the main hose to the timer. I set it to water for 30 minutes every other day, early in the morning. I figured that would be enough to keep my roses happy without overwatering them.

Testing and Tweaking

Of course, I had to test it out! I turned on the faucet and… water started spraying everywhere! Turns out, my duct tape job wasn’t as watertight as I thought. I had a small pond that had appeared in my small garden

So, I went back and reinforced all the connections with more duct tape. I also adjusted the position of the tubing to make sure the water was hitting the roots of the roses and not just spraying into the air.I did my best to make sure all the water goes into the roots of the roses.

The Final Result

After a few tweaks, it actually worked! My “Triple Crown Lane” watering system was up and running. It’s not the most elegant solution, but it gets the job done. And my roses? They’re thriving! I check from time to time to ensure that my roses are not overwatered.
