Hike the Edge of the World Trail? Best Photo Spots

Okay, so yesterday I finally checked out the Edge of the World Trail. I’d heard about it from a couple of buddies, and the pictures online looked insane, so I was pretty pumped.

First things first, getting there. I grabbed my old, beat-up hiking boots – seriously, these things have seen better days – and tossed my backpack in the car. The drive out was… well, let’s just say my GPS took me on a “scenic route” that involved a lot more dirt roads than I expected. Note to self: double-check the directions next time, and maybe download an offline map.

The Trailhead

The trailhead itself was pretty easy to find, there was this little, dusty parking area. It was mostly empty except for a few other SUVs. I hopped out, stretched because that “scenic route” took longer, and slathered on some sunscreen. It was already starting to heat up, so I fill my water bottle as full as it can go.

The first part of the trail was pretty chill. It wound through these tall pine trees, and the ground was soft with pine needles. I was feeling good, making good time, and thinking, “This is a breeze!”

Then the incline started. Slowly at first, but then… bam! It was like straight up. My legs were burning, and I was definitely huffing and puffing. I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath and take a swig of water. I even saw a couple of other hikers coming down, and they gave me that knowing look, like, “Yeah, it’s tough, but keep going!”

  • Stopped to tie my shoelace – twice. Gotta get new laces.
  • Saw a cool lizard! It was bright green and just sat there staring at me.
  • Almost stepped on a snake. Note to self: watch where you’re walking!

I keep on walking as the the trail got rockier, and I had to do some actual climbing in a few spots. Nothing too crazy, but I definitely had to use my hands. It was getting hotter, too, and the sun was beating down. I was so glad I’d brought extra water.

Reaching the Edge

Finally, after what felt like forever, I made it to the top. And… wow. The view was absolutely incredible. It seriously looked like the edge of the world! I could see for miles and miles, and everything looked so small below. I just stood there for a while, taking it all in.

I found a nice, flat rock and sat down to have my lunch: peanut butter and jelly, the classic hiker’s meal. It tasted amazing after that climb. I also took a bunch of pictures, trying to capture the view, but honestly, pictures just don’t do it justice.

The hike down was a lot easier, obviously, but I had to be careful not to slip on the loose rocks. My knees were definitely feeling it by the time I got back to the car.

Overall, it was an awesome hike. Definitely challenging, but so worth it for that view. Would I do it again? Absolutely. But maybe I’ll invest in some new hiking boots first.
