Okay, so I’ve been wanting to mess around with generating some cool horse pictures, specifically of Secretariat, ’cause, you know, legendary racehorse. I’d seen some pretty amazing AI-generated images floating around, and I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a good image generator. I’ve played around with a few before, some were okay, others, not so much. The hit-and-miss quality has been a real turn-off.
I did some quick searching, bounced around a few different platforms. I was looking for something user-friendly. I’m not a tech wizard, so I needed something relatively straightforward.
Experimenting with Prompts
This is where the real fun (and frustration) began. Figuring out the right words, the right phrases, to get the AI to spit out what I was imagining was tricky. My initial attempts were…well, let’s just say they weren’t exactly Triple Crown winners.
- My first prompt: “Secretariat running” – Result: A blurry mess of brown and…something. Looked more like a melted ice cream cone than a horse.
- Second try: “Secretariat, racehorse, winning” – Result: Slightly better, but still looked like a horse designed by someone who’d only ever seen a horse described in a poorly written book.
- Third try: “photorealistic, Secretariat, Belmont Stakes, 1973, winning, powerful, majestic” Added datails!Result: Bingo! We’re getting somewhere! The image was way more detailed, the horse actually looked like Secretariat, and the setting was pretty accurate.
I learned pretty quickly that being specific is key. Throwing in details like “Belmont Stakes, 1973” made a huge difference. Also, words like “photorealistic,” “powerful,” and “majestic” really helped shape the final image.
Tweaking and Refining
Even with the better prompts, I still had to do some tweaking. Sometimes the AI would get a little…creative…with the anatomy of the horse, or the background would be a bit wonky. I spent a good chunk of time just playing with different settings, regenerating images, and trying slight variations on my prompts.

For example I used different combinations like:
- “Secretariat, cinematic lighting”
- “Secretariat, Ron Turcotte, close-up”
- “Secretariat, dirt track, fast shutter speed”
The Final Results
After a bunch of trial and error, I finally got a few images that I was really happy with. They weren’t perfect, but they definitely captured the spirit of Secretariat. It’s pretty amazing what these AI tools can do, even if it takes a bit of work to get there. I’m thinking about printing one of these out and framing it! It’s kinda cool to think I “created” this, even if it was with the help of some fancy algorithms.
My biggest takeaway? Patience, and don’t be afraid to experiment. And definitely be as specific as possible with your prompts! Also, these image generators are constantly improving, so what’s “meh” today might be mind-blowing tomorrow. I’m definitely going to keep playing around with this.
