Okay, guys, let’s talk about UNC basketball players in the NBA. I’ve always been a huge Tar Heels fan, so I decided to dig into this.
Starting the Search
First, I started by trying to get a general idea of how many UNC guys are actually playing in the NBA right now. It looks like there are around 6 UNC alumni currently in the NBA. But, you know, that number changes a lot. Players move around, get drafted, or go play overseas. It’s a bit of a moving target, but that’s a good starting point. Then there are also about 22 guys in the G-League or playing internationally, which is pretty cool.
Diving into UNC’s Legacy
Then, I got a little sidetracked thinking about UNC’s history in the NCAA. Man, they’ve got six championships – 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, and 2017. Plus, that old 1924 Helms title. They’ve always been a powerhouse, which probably explains why so many of their players make it to the pros.
The GOAT Conversation
Of course, when you talk about UNC and the NBA, you gotta talk about Michael Jordan. I mean, the guy’s a legend. I looked up his stats again – 30.1 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists… just insane. He’s gotta be the best Tar Heel to ever play in the NBA, right?

But it’s not just Jordan. There have been so many other amazing players. I stumbled upon someone’s list of the top 30 UNC players ever, and it was a fun trip down memory lane. Antawn Jamison, Tyler Hansbrough… so many names. It made me realize just how many great players have come through Chapel Hill.
Finding a List
I kept digging and found a list of 7 former UNC players in the NBA right now, with some of their basic info like position, height, and weight. We’re talking about guys like Cole Anthony, Harrison Barnes, and Leaky Black, just to name a few. This got me pretty pumped to find out what those guys are up to now, you know?
Official UNC Stuff
I even found the official UNC men’s basketball media guide and record book from 2020-21. It had bios on all the players and coaches, some cool photos. It’s pretty neat to see all that official stuff.
Reflecting on My Little Research Journey
So yeah, that was my little adventure exploring UNC basketball players in the NBA. It was cool to see how many Tar Heels are out there making their mark, and it reminded me why I love following this team. It’s like a family, with players going on to do great things. There’s a lot of names out there to keep an eye on, like those 19 mentioned, Armando Bacot and Cormac Ryan, and many others.
