Alright, so today I’m diving into something a little different, but super fun – the Oregon Duck mascot. You know, that energetic, feathered dude who’s always pumping up the crowd at Oregon games.
First off, I started digging into the history of this mascot. Turns out, it wasn’t always just ‘The Duck.’ I read somewhere that way back, the teams were known as the ‘Webfoots,’ which sounds kinda weird now, right? But yeah, there was a time with no official mascot at all.
Then, I learned about this cool connection with Disney. Apparently, one of the athletic directors, Leo Harris, was buddies with a Disney cartoonist, Mike Royer. They cooked up this deal where the University of Oregon could use Donald Duck as their mascot. How wild is that? They even called him Donald Duck for a while!
So, I got really into this and watched a bunch of videos. In one, I saw the Duck, now officially called “Puddles,” leading the football team onto the field. The energy was insane! I could practically feel the hype through my screen. Another video showed Puddles cheering during a game against the Colorado Buffaloes. Man, that Duck’s got moves.
And it gets even better. I stumbled upon this clip of a little girl, Avery White, who became an “unofficial backup mascot.” Her dad lifted her up during a game, and it was the cutest thing ever. It’s moments like these that make you love the whole mascot thing even more.
I also found some hilarious videos of the Duck dancing with cheerleaders. Seriously, this mascot’s got some serious rhythm. And there was another one where the Duck was playing with kids at some event with Brutus Buckeye, the Ohio State mascot. It’s awesome to see these mascots bringing so much joy, not just to the games, but to the community as well.

I gotta say, I’ve got a newfound appreciation for mascots after all this. They really do add a special something to the whole sports experience!
