So, I was messing around the other day trying to recreate that famous Kobe Bryant championship photo with Jayson Tatum. You know the one, right? It’s iconic!
I’ve been a huge fan of Kobe for years, and with Tatum emerging as a superstar, I thought it would be cool to blend the old with the new.
Getting Started
First things first, I dug up that classic Kobe photo. It’s the one where he’s sitting in the locker room, holding the trophy, looking all contemplative. That’s the vibe I was going for. Then I found a bunch of recent photos of Tatum, especially those from after the Celtics’ recent wins, to see if any had a similar feel.

The Setup
I didn’t have a real locker room, so I had to get creative. I cleared out a corner of my room and set up a makeshift backdrop that kind of looked like a locker. I even printed out a Celtics logo to stick on the wall. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the job. I also grabbed a basketball trophy from my shelf – not the Larry O’Brien, obviously, but it worked for the effect.
Taking the Photos
Getting the pose right was trickier than I thought. I studied Kobe’s posture in the photo – the way he held the trophy, the expression on his face. Then I tried to mimic that with my Tatum cutouts and my own trophy. I took a ton of photos, adjusting the lighting, the angle, everything. I even roped in my buddy to help with the camera.
The Editing
After I had a bunch of photos, I started playing around with editing. I wanted to capture that same grainy, nostalgic look of the original Kobe picture. I fiddled with the filters and adjusted the contrast and brightness. It took a while, but I finally got something I was happy with.
The Final Result
Honestly, it didn’t turn out to be an exact replica, but it was close! I mean, there is one picture of Tatum with his son, Deuce, that’s just heartwarming. And I saw some shots of Tatum with his girlfriend, Ella Mai, celebrating her birthday – those were awesome, too. But recreating that iconic Kobe moment with Tatum, that was special.
In the end, it was a fun little project. It was cool to pay homage to Kobe while also celebrating Tatum’s rise. I even shared the photos online, and people seemed to dig them. It’s not every day you get to blend your love for two basketball legends. Plus, I learned a lot about photography and editing along the way. This thing reminded me of how much a single photo can capture a moment, a feeling, a legacy.
