Alright so yesterday I got this idea stuck in my head – wanted to compile some killer moments from Channing Austin’s season with the Mets. Figured it’d be fun to share how I actually made that compilation vid everyone’s asking about.
Starting Point Was Total Chaos
Opened my laptop around noon with cold coffee. First thing? Dove straight into Mets game archives on the team app. Spent like two hours just downloading highlights – my internet’s trash so this took forever. Realized I saved everything as .mkv files which my old editing software absolutely hates. Massive headache already.
The Grind of Putting Clips Together
Decided to just chop stuff manually instead of dealing with converter tools. My process was dumb simple:
- Watched every single at-bat from August onward – eyes burned by the ninth inning stretch clips
- Tagged defensive plays separately – dude makes diving catches look easy
- Timed hot streaks where he batted .350 – scribbled notes on a pizza box cause I lost my notepad
Software crashed three times during this. Almost threw my mouse through the window.
Making Sense of the Madness
Started noticing patterns while editing – like how pitchers kept throwing high fastballs at him even though he crushed those all season. Made a whole section just for those moments. Sorted clips by:
- Defensive gems
- Clutch hits with runners on base
- Those ridiculous opposite-field homers
Real talk – spent way too long arguing with myself about including that one blooper where he tripped running bases. Left it in for laughs.
Final Stretch and Compromises
Rendering took ages because I added too many transitions early on. Had to scrap half of ’em when the preview looked like a PowerPoint slide. Ended up using:
- Simple crossfades between plays
- Basic text for dates/opponents
- Radio calls instead of music after copyright scare
Uploaded at 3AM after my cat walked on the keyboard and deleted half a timeline. Pretty sure the final cut’s missing that walk-off double against the Braves because of that furball sabotage.
Anyway that’s the messy reality behind that “Best Moments” video. Next time I swear I’ll just stream the games live instead.
