Alright let’s dive into my experience testing Hanabi in Honkai Star Rail. I’d heard she was this amazing damage booster, but when I first used her randomly in battle, things didn’t go so smooth. Couldn’t figure out why my big attack characters weren’t hitting harder.
My Testing Approach
So I set up this controlled experiment with Seele as main damage dealer. Did multiple MoC runs with same enemies, same builds, only changing how I controlled Hanabi. Wrote down numbers every time Seele unleashed attacks.
The Mistakes I Fixed
First big discovery? Spamming skills makes performance worse. Her skill doesn’t just give any buff – it targets the next character taking action. When I kept using it randomly, sometimes the healer got buffed instead of Seele. Totally wasted.
Also found her technique activation has tricks:
- Activate Hanabi’s technique BEFORE entering combat – that initial skill point bonus lets your main DPS hit hard immediately
- Hold her ultimate until after your main DPS has acted – sounds backwards right? But it sets up back-to-back turns with buffs active for both attacks
Positioning Matters Crazy Amount
Tested this with Tingyun support – turns out Hanabi works way better when placed right before your main DPS in turn order. Noticed huge damage difference when I manually adjusted speed stats to force this sequence:
- Hanabi uses skill to buff next character
- Immediately Seele acts with massive buff
- Seele gets extra turn from killing enemy
- THEN Hanabi pops ultimate to recharge Seele’s turn
This created this insane combo chain where Seele attacked three times back-to-back with full buffs active.
Final Damage Boost
After fixing these things, Seele’s damage went up over 60% in average compared to me just using Hanabi’s skills randomly. Her talent giving extra energy from ultimate usage meant constant rotation possible too. Whole team attacked way more often.
The hard part? Requires watching turn order constantly and resisting urge to press buttons fast. But when timed right… oh man those big numbers pop up feel great! Definitely keeping her on my main teams now.
