How to Fulfill Standing Dunk Requirements in NBA 2K24 Player Needs

Okay, so this standing dunk thing in 2K24? Man, it drove me nuts for a while. My dude just would not dunk standing still near the rim, even when he was wide open. He’d do this weak layup animation every single time and I was ready to chuck my controller. Total trash. I figured, with his dunk rating already pretty high, it should just happen. Big nope.

Clueless and Pointless VC Spending

At first, I thought maybe I just needed more dunks unlocked. Wrong. I hopped into the animations store and wasted some hard-earned VC buying every Standing Dunk package under the sun – Regular, Big Man, Athletic… you name it. Slapped them all on my guy. Jumped into a MyCareer game immediately afterwards, got perfect position right under the basket… and yup, still a layup. Felt like throwing good money after bad. Totally clueless strategy.

The Painful Google Search Grind

That forced me to actually google it properly. Like, “why won’t my player standing dunk 2k24”. Buried in some forum posts, the truth hit me: it’s not just about dunk animations or your general dunk rating. Those help if you can trigger it, but you need specific attributes high enough just for the game to even allow the standing dunk to happen in the first place! Mind blown. It’s like a secret handshake I didn’t know about.

The Magic Numbers (That Everyone Forgets To Mention)

Turns out, Standing Dunk Rating isn’t the only boss here. You gotta meet THREE requirements:

  • Standing Dunk attribute: This one’s obvious, but I didn’t realize how high it needed to be. For a guard/wing like mine? Needs to be at least 60 to trigger the basic standing dunks. Big guys need it way higher for the flashy ones.
  • Vertical attribute: This shocked me. Standing Dunk needs juice to jump straight up! My dude only had like 40 Vert. Turns out you need at least 40 Vertical even for the simple standing dunks. Again, fancier ones need more air.
  • Dunk Packages Equipped: Okay, this one I kinda figured, but now I knew I had to have the right TYPE equipped. No more pointless Big Man dunks on my 6’7″ SF.

The game just straight-up ignores your standing dunk button press if any one of these is too low. Brutal.

The Grind (And It Felt Like One)

Checked my build. Dunk was already at 65 (so, barely over the threshold for a wing), but my Vertical? Stuck at a pathetic 38. Two points short. That’s why it wasn’t working! Jumped straight into the Gatorade Gym. Played a bunch of MyCareer games just focusing on getting those takeovers so I could pound the Vert drills on the side. Did every Vert-boosting workout they offered – box jumps, those hurdles, whatever. Took me like 4-5 game days worth of grinding between games to finally push that Vert from 38 up to 40.

Finally Feels Like Basketball

Hit 40 Vert. Jumped into a real game. Got that deep post position again, held the damn dunk button tight like my life depended on it… and BOOM! First simple two-handed rim grazer standing dunk. Beautiful. It wasn’t flashy, but man, after all that frustration? It was glorious. The big men packages still need way higher ratings that my dude doesn’t have, but just seeing that basic dunk animation fire felt like a massive win.

Moral of the story? Don’t waste VC on animations early hoping it’ll fix everything. Grind those core attributes first – Standing Dunk and Vertical are the golden tickets. Get those high enough, then splash out on the fancy animations. Game feels totally different now. Can actually play some post offense instead of just floating trash layups over dudes.
