Why I Looked Into This Whole Sydney Thing
Honestly? It started when I was scrolling Twitter last Thursday. Saw three different tweets calling Sydney Sweeney overrated back-to-back. Thought it was weird since just last month everyone was hyping her up like crazy. So I decided to dig into why this flip happened so fast.
How I Did the Digging
First thing was hopping on Reddit – went straight to those big movie discussion threads. Sorted by controversial on some Euphoria posts. Kept seeing the same complaints:
- “She just plays crying angry girls”
- “Got famous for being half-naked not acting”
- “Cassie was the only character she nailed”
Then I pulled up her IMDB page. Watched clips from Madame Web and that Vatican girl show everybody hated. Damn, those were rough. Like wooden acting mixed with bad writing. Actually paused it halfway through because secondhand embarrassment hit hard.
Compared her roles to Zendaya’s film choices. Noticed Sydney kept picking these trashy scripts after Euphoria while Zendaya went for prestige stuff. Realized timing’s everything – Madame Web came out right when people started questioning if she’s a one-trick pony.
The Messy Conclusion I Reached
Turns out the “overrated” stuff blew up for three stupid reasons:
- Bad projects: Choosing Madame Web after Euphoria looked desperate
- Hype backlash: People get sick of constant praise real quick
- Comparison: Zendaya kept leveling up while Syd picked flops
Watched Euphoria clips again just to check. Ngl she kills it as Cassie – crying scenes feel real AF. But in Madame Web? Embarrassing. Like watching someone read cue cards. Made me think maybe she just hasn’t found roles that challenge her enough.
Why I Bother With This Stuff
Truth is I started doing these pop culture dives after losing my retail job during COVID. Was stuck home for months with nothing to do except refresh Twitter. Eventually got hired at my cousin’s print shop, but those internet digging habits stuck. Now when trends flip this fast, I can’t stop myself from investigating. Found the Sydney situation because I was supposed to be fixing a paper jam but got sucked into Twitter drama – again. Old habits die hard I guess.
