Alright, so the clouds rolled in over Pelican Town, you know how it gets in summer. One minute it’s blazing sun, the next it’s just pouring down. Most folks probably hole up, maybe hit the mines or sort out their chests. Me? I saw that rain and thought, “Perfect fishing weather!” Specifically, I had a craving, well, more like a need, for some Catfish.

Gearing Up and Heading Out
Didn’t do anything too fancy, mind you. Grabbed my trusty fiberglass rod – still saving up for that iridium one, story of my life. Shoved a handful of bait in my pocket. You gotta have bait, right? Otherwise, you’re just standing there getting soaked for even longer. I headed straight for the river, the one that runs right through town, past Marnie’s ranch. The rain was really coming down, making those nice little splashing sounds on the water. Cozy, in a pixelated sort of way.
So, there I was. Stood at my usual spot, just south of Leah’s cabin. Took a deep breath, well, my farmer did, and I cast out the line. That familiar whoosh and plop. Then the waiting game begins. You just stare at that bobber, waiting for the tell-tale tug and the “HIT!” notification.
The Actual Fishing Part – The Struggle is Real
It didn’t take long for the first bite. Bam! The mini-game pops up. Now, Catfish, they ain’t no pushovers. They dart around like crazy. You gotta be quick with that green bar, chasing that slippery fish icon up and down. My first few attempts? Let’s just say the fish won. They just zipped off, probably laughing. Lost some bait too, which is always annoying.
I kept at it, though. Re-baited, cast again. More waiting. Sometimes it was just a Chub, easy peasy. Sometimes a Smallmouth Bass, a bit more of a fight but manageable. But I was there for the Catfish. And when one finally hooked on properly, it was a proper battle. My finger was working that button, trying to keep that bar steady. My character’s energy was dropping, of course. Had to munch on a field snack or two just to keep going.
- Cast line.
- Wait for bite.
- Fight the fish in the mini-game.
- Hopefully, catch the fish.
- Repeat. Endlessly.
It wasn’t all epic battles, though. Got a few bits of trash. A soggy newspaper, classic. A broken CD. You know, the usual treasures the river coughs up. It’s funny, you’re out there for this specific thing, and the game just throws random stuff at you. Keeps you humble, I guess.

Was It Worth It?
After a good few in-game hours, with the rain still hammering down, I finally had a decent haul. Managed to snag about five or six Catfish, which was my main goal. Plus a smattering of other river dwellers. My energy was shot, and I was pretty sure my farmer’s clothes were soaked through, if pixels could get soaked.
So, yeah, that was my summer rain fishing adventure. It’s not always glamorous. Sometimes it’s frustrating, especially when a rare one gets away. But there’s something satisfying about sticking it out, especially in the rain. It feels like you’ve earned those fish. Plus, Catfish sell for a decent bit, and they’re needed for a bundle or two, so it felt productive. It’s one of those Stardew things – you set out to do a simple task, and it turns into its own little story of perseverance against uncooperative digital fish. Good times, mostly.
