The Actual Work – Slow and Steady
First, I just started sketching things out. Old school, pen and paper mostly. Trying to map out what a real fix would look like, what parts it would need. It wasn’t neat, lots of crossings out, arrows going everywhere. Looked like a mess, honestly.
Then, I began gathering the pieces. Not fancy tools, just the basics.
- Cleared out some old clutter, metaphorically speaking. Got rid of ideas that were clearly dead ends.
- Started putting down the very first, simplest blocks. Really basic stuff. Think laying one brick at a time.
- Spent a lot of time just thinking, testing small ideas in isolation to see if they’d even work. Most didn’t, at first.
There were days, weeks even, where it felt like I was going backwards. Hitting a wall, tearing down something I’d built the day before because it wasn’t right. It was frustrating, no doubt about it. You pour effort in, and the next day you realize it’s gotta go. That tests your patience.
I made sure to document everything I was doing. Not for anyone else, really, but for myself, to keep track. And maybe, just maybe, if I get hit by a bus or just run out of steam, someone else can pick up the notes and figure out what I was trying to do. It felt important to leave some kind of trail.
Where It Stands Now
So, where is it now? It’s… still foundational. Very much so. It’s far from finished, not even close to being usable in the way I imagine it eventually could be. It’s just groundwork. Solid groundwork, I hope, but still just the beginning layers.
Honestly, looking at the scope of it, the full vision… yeah, “i may not live to see our glory” feels about right. The big payoff, the moment where everyone sees why this was necessary? That’s likely years, maybe decades away. Maybe it never quite gets there. But I show up, I lay another brick, I make my notes. You do the work you think needs doing. That’s pretty much it.
