My French Tips Sky Blue 1.5 Journey
Okay, so today I decided to finally tackle those sky blue French tips again. I’m calling this round “1.5” because my first try, well, let’s just say it needed some work. Felt like giving it another go with a slightly different approach.
First things first, gotta get the canvas ready. I spent some time just cleaning up my nails. You know the drill:
- Removed old polish (whatever was left of it).
- Gave them a quick file to even things out, nothing too fancy, just neatening the shape.
- Pushed back my cuticles gently. Always makes a difference, makes the nails look longer, cleaner.
- Wiped them down real good to make sure there was no dust or oil left.
Next up, base coat. Never skip this! I slapped on one thin layer. Waited for that to dry completely. Patience is key here, learned that the hard way many times.
Then came the main event: the sky blue tips. This is where version 1.0 went a bit wobbly. This time, I grabbed my sky blue polish – it’s this really nice, soft blue, perfect for a subtle look. Instead of trying to freehand it perfectly straight away, I tried using those little nail guide sticker things. Honestly, they can be fiddly, but I took my time placing them just right, trying to get a nice, even curve on each nail.
Painting the tips: I carefully painted the blue above the guides. One coat seemed a bit sheer, so I waited a bit and went for a second thin coat of the blue. The trick was pulling off the guides while the blue was still slightly wet but not too wet. Pulled them off slowly. Okay, much better this time! Not perfectly salon-level, but way cleaner lines than my last freehand disaster.
Let the blue tips dry for a decent amount of time. Seriously, waited longer than I wanted to, but smudging them now would just be annoying.

Finally, the top coat. One good layer over the whole nail, sealing in the blue tip and giving everything that nice shiny finish. Makes it last longer too, hopefully.
So, that’s the 1.5 attempt. They look pretty decent! The sky blue is subtle but definitely there. It feels classic like a French tip but the blue adds a little something fun. Way happier with how the lines turned out this time using the guides, even if they were a bit of a pain to put on straight. It’s a simple look, but I kinda like it. Feels fresh.
