Getting the Idea
It started pretty simply. Had some time off saved up, and Spain was calling. Saw some pictures of Girona, looked nice, kinda medieval vibe. Then saw stuff about Granada, the Alhambra and all that. Thought, why not connect the two? Seemed like a decent plan, cover a good chunk of the country.
I spent a fair bit of time looking into it. You know how it is, checking train times, maybe flights, looking at maps online. Trying to figure out the best way. Is it faster to fly? More scenic by train? All those questions. I was pretty set on the train, actually. Thought it would be more of an experience.
Things Changed, Like Always
But then things went a bit sideways. My travel buddy, the one who was all keen initially, had to drop out. Something about work, or maybe it was his dog? Honestly, I forget the exact excuse, but the bottom line was, I was suddenly looking at doing it alone. Not the end of the world, but it changed the feel of it, you know?
So, I had to rethink things. Flying suddenly looked a lot easier than messing with long train journeys by myself. Less hassle. I think I ended up flying out of Barcelona in the end, because getting a direct flight from Girona wasn’t working out easily. Close enough, I guess.
The Actual Journey and Places
The flight itself was just… a flight. Quick, impersonal. Got me there, though. And Granada? Man, it hit different compared to Girona. Girona felt walkable, compact. Really liked wandering those old streets near the river.
Granada was bigger, louder, more intense. The Alhambra was obviously the main event, and yeah, it’s stunning. Spent hours there. But just getting around the city felt like a mission sometimes. Those narrow, winding streets in the Albaicín? Got properly turned around more than once.

Maybe getting lost in Granada was good practice for navigating the uncertainty of finding new work? Ha, probably not, but it makes for a nice thought.
