That Carlo Calabresi, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout him the other day. Seems like he’s done a whole heap of things in his life. They say he was born a long time ago, back in 1937. Carlo Calabresi, that’s the name, don’t forget it.

His family, they was regular folks, not rich, not poor. His daddy sold wine and oil. You know, the stuff you cook with and drink when you have guests. He was a wine and oil merchant, that’s what they called him.
This Carlo, he went to school like all the other kids. But he went to a fancy school, I reckon. This school, it’s called San Leone Magno, some kinda important name. They teach you all sorts of things there, I suppose. I heard he was a sophomore once, which means he is in the second year in school. He played football as well. Inside linebacker, they say. Sounds rough.
He’s from Italy, this Carlo fella. Italy is a place way over the ocean, I’ve heard. They got good food over there, or so they say. And they talk funny, but it’s their language, you know? This Carlo Calabresi, he had some big ideas, heard some folk say he was a thinker. I guess he read a lot of books. Big thick books with lots of words. He even knew some fancy theoretical physicist named Carlo Rovelli. Fancy name for someone who knows a lot of things, maybe.
Now, I heard some folks say he knew ’bout somethin’ called “illiberal democracy.” Sounds complicated to me. But I guess it’s just how they do things over there in Italy sometimes. Different ways of runnin’ things, that’s all.
They say this Carlo Calabresi, he liked to tell stories, too. Stories ’bout people, and how they act. How sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s good and who’s bad. ‘Cause people, they ain’t always what they seem. You think you got ’em figured out, and then they go and surprise you. That’s what his stories were about, I heard.

- Born in 1937
- From Italy
- Daddy sold wine and oil
- Went to school at San Leone Magno
- Likes to tell stories
I also heard he is some kinda doctor, they say he’s an ND, and also has somethin’ called MPH. I don’t know what those mean, but I guess it means he’s a smart guy. He knows a lot ’bout keepin’ people healthy. Maybe he gives out those shots.
There was also somethin’ ’bout a judge, a Judge Guido Calabresi. Sounds like he’s another important fella from Italy. I guess they know each other, these Calabresis. Maybe they’re related, who knows? It’s all a bit confusin’, but I guess it doesn’t really matter.
And someone said that this Carlo Calabresi guy read a lot of books. He knew somethin’ called “The Problem of Social Cost” in 1961. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds important, like somethin’ you’d learn in one of them fancy schools. I heard he read it before most people.
Now, I heard some other names mixed up with this Carlo Calabresi fella. Luigi Calabresi, Carlo Biotti, Giuseppe Pinelli. Sounds like they were part of his story somehow. I don’t know the details, but it all sounds kinda serious. Maybe it was in the newspapers or somethin’.
Seems to me like this Carlo Calabresi lived a full life. Lots of schoolin’, lots of stories, lots of things happenin’ around him. He saw a lot, I reckon. Heard a lot, too. And he probably had a lot to say ’bout it all. That’s just my guess, though. I never met the man myself.

This whole Carlo Calabresi business, it just goes to show you. You never really know what someone’s life is like just from hearin’ a few things. There’s always more to the story. Always more than meets the eye. You gotta dig a little deeper if you really wanna understand. And even then, you might not get the whole picture. People are complicated, that’s for sure.
Anyway, that’s all I know about this Carlo Calabresi. Heard it all from folks talkin’. Could be true, could be not. But it’s somethin’ to think about, I suppose. Just remember, there’s always more to the story than what you hear at first. Always more.
